Galway at 5/1 looks good, basically Mervue from last year plus a few more. 7/1 on Shels looks a mental price too. Wouldn't go near us at 5/2 tbh.

Waterford have slashed the budget so wouldn't go near them. Longford should walk it - a few near misses under the belt, a good D1 budget and have retained O'Sullivan. The only downside is doubts around Cousins. At this stage of his career he has a disturbing number of failed promotion bids from strong positions under his belt. Galway should be strong and will have continuity from the Mervue element. We don't really know what Rovers will be like- and indeed this could vary wildly from week to week. But in recent years they have had loads of good players on the books so should be decent. Similarly it's not clear what Shels will be like- there was word of them going all amateur, but will access to the great Dublin player pool won't be too bad. Cobh and Wexford are unlikely to be in a promotion charge but will be tricky opponents as always.

Given that Harps have at yet done very little transfer wise, optimism must be based on a belief that Horgan will prove markedly superior to Hutton as a manager. But given that I'm increasingly convinced that an elderly llama with severe post traumatic syndrome and alzheimer's would be a markedly superior option to Mr Hutton, this may prove to be the case. Last year we rarely approached being the sum of our parts- if that changes we'll go a lot better.

We're also a bit short on defenders at the moment but that could change in the coming weeks obviously. A new highly rated coach in Graham Lawlor may be a plus this year as well.

Galway would be a cert if they had Mervues coach but they don't.
Longford had 2 chances over the last 2 years especially last season and blew it, so hard to say if it was down to the bad run of injuries, the players mind set, or the coaching/managerial staff,
all this has changed new players, new coach, no injuries as yet, so maybe third time lucky, but tbh I won't be backing them until I have seen them play at least with a settled team
Rovers and Shels who knows what teams will be like
Waterford are always in the shake up but 5/2 no thanks
Finn Harps are hard to beat at home and with a few better players might just be a bit of value at 14/1 and 1/5 of the odds for 1st, 2nd and 3rd that's almost 3/1 for a place I might have some of that

I don't get this fascination with Johnny Glynn - he was manager of Mervue for four seasons, and they finished second last (11 of 12 teams) in 2009, lower mid-table (7th of 11 teams) in 2011, second last (7th of 8 teams) in 2012, before finishing 3rd of eight teams in 2013. A nice man, and clearly did a great job with Mervue last year . . . but not the three other seasons he was in charge IMO, and I have no qualms with him not getting the job.

I think Longford will win the league with Finn Harps, Galway Fc, Rovers B, Waterford & Shels are fighting for 2nd, with Wexford & Cobh fighting for last.

I presume 2nd will play 3rd in a playoff, with winner playing 2nd last in premier in playoff final. I also Presume if Rovers B finish in top 3 4th place will get into playoff
