The ref last night IMO was very very poor. He let Waterford away with their thug play but seemed to call Doyler up ever time he looked at a Waterford player.
No matter how many allowances he made for Waterford ... City were going away with three points, simple as that.

I must say I was looking at the table this morning and thinking it could be done but it is a vey long shot in my opinion. We need to win every game we play for the rest of season to do it i'd say and shels need to drop points somewhere else along the line as well but you never know.
It would be the greatest come back of all time in a title race if we did it i'd say.Roll on our next game know and lets keep the momentum going. :)

Waterford United 1-4 Cork City
Alan Carey 18 (o.g.)
Willie Bruton 42
Kevin Doyle 48
Alan Bennett 61
John O'Flynn 78
Bad night for old-boys as City win at RSC
It was a night to forget for a couple of former Cork City players as the Rebels ran out 4-1 winners in Waterford tonight.
Former player, Alan Carey put Cork ahead in the 18th minute with an own goal. The defender rolling a backpass past goalkeeper Dan Connor as the Blues gifted the lead to City. It was level at the break though as Willie Bruton scored before half time after John Frost had chipped the ball over the City defence and left Bruton one-on-one with goalkeeper Mick Devine.
Kevin Doyle reinstated Cork's lead just four minutes after half time. George O'Callaghan had headed Liam Kearney's corner kick into his path and Doyle made no mistake.
Alan Bennett's goal on the hour put City 3-1 up after a perfect pass from O'Callaghan. John O'Flynn made it a rout with a fourth on 78 minutes as he drilled the ball home after Connor had parried Doyle's initial effort.
Waterford's player-manager Alan Reynolds, also a former Cork player, was sent off in injury time after an off the ball clash with Denis Behan.
Waterford United : Connor, Coleman, Frost (Waters 81), Breen, Whelehan, Carey (Sullivan 67), Reynolds, Mulcahy, Murphy, Bruton, Clifford (Quitongo 67).
Cork City : Devine, Bennett, O'Halloran, Murray, Horgan, Woods, Gamble, Kearney, O'Callaghan, Doyle, J O'Flynn (Behan 88).

He went to Kilcohan Park. That is a greyhound track! I heard he backed no.6 at the 8.10 race. Lucky him, it came in at 7-1
Fantastic result last night..i thought the whole team played very well..i think Gamble is making a big difference to our team..he is winning lots of ball, breaking up play and supplying easy passes to teamates..even though Colin is having a great season Gamble is a better central midfielder and its showing..Kearney was absolutely outstanding last night..Waterford had no answer to him..Flynny looked good last night also and what can you say about Doyler?..brilliant..Carey showed the form last night why City released him..very poor up against good players that run at him..the support City had was fantastic..as always well done to Eric and Eanna on drums for getting the atmosphere going...i always thought we could get 2nd and now with recent results its amazing to think we have an outside chance of winning the league..Turners Cross should be buzzing Friday night.. :)
Also..I am glad for Pat Dolan who has come through the recent criticism and made changes for the best of the team..he is a strong character and deserves praise..how on earth people were calling for his head is beyond me..anyway from what i could see back then and from what i can see now he is building by far the best team we ever had at this club...
Next year :Champions league/UEFA Cup(hopefully)
:New Cup involving teams North and South..
:City of Culture Cup..
...so much to look forward to..we must finish at least 2nd...why would any of our players want to go to England when they have all this to look forward to... :)

I hate the idea of us raising the bar again and if we dont make it, the guys with the dooms day prophecies will be back again.
They all go quite around now when we are doing well but they are very timely when they see fit. Lets not get ahead of ourselves lads and take each game as it comes.

>>> form is temporary but class is permanent <<< Had a good read over this whole thread again, just to keep the buzz going, like. The result at the RSC makes up for a lot of disappointment this season. It is interesting to notice that not one, NOT ONE person was sorry for Reynolds. Says a lot about the man.
And then, I see this comment from Corner. Must have missed it in the first rush of pleasure reading. Careful now, Corner! You are in danger of becoming the author of a really good club slogan.

Read in the Echo that the last win we had down there was in 1999 when the blob scored two and Morley scored one, it finished 1:3 .... that was my first time in the RSC, and it seems like an age ago. By that i mean it is a totally different club we are supporting now.
Does this mean our next win there could be 1:5 ?? :D

Lads City played them off the park in every position, in the second Rat Utd. didnt have a sniff at goal.
Tthe only worries I'd have are Murray [looked skeychy] and Woods [improved in 2nd half]
Gamble was amazing, again.

Credit to Dolan for the way he kept his mouth shut over the bottle, Shels will be the test, regardless of the title and second/ if they they can travel and win it's a step forward as would be winning the remaining matches.

Lads fair play to ye for Friday night.Good result for ye,terrible for us.
Thought 1st half we deserved to go in level, held our own but after the break we were terrible, had Mulcahys shot gone in instead of off the post it would of been a different game!!!The better team won on the night simple as that!!!
As for some other comments being made on this thread,I think ye're getting a bit carried away with yourselves.Ye beat a team who have 1 eye on the cup final next sunday,a team who are only in their 2nd season back in the Premier Division,a team who don't work off the same resources as CCFC.The victory is CCFC first in the RSC since 1999 when CCFC were a premier side and finished 3rd in the league.Have ye progressed since then??????????????

Ye beat a team who have 1 eye on the cup final next sunday,a team who are only in their 2nd season back in the Premier Division,a team who don't work off the same resources as CCFC. The cup final excuse is daft. With a fully fit squad competing for places in the cup final, every player went out last Friday night trying to impress.
As it is only your second season back at premier level, is it any wonder we did not win in Waterford for 5 years? For a lot of that time, ye were not even in our league. Actually, ye still are not. The resources argument is fair enough. We will allow you that. And why do you think your club's resources so poor? (Hint: If you were a businessman looking for a club to promote your product or service, would you sink your promotions budget into a club which:
= has a goalkeeper who gets into trouble for spraying water into the spectators?
= has a player-manager who incites a large crowd with the 2-finger salute?
= sees a visiting manager hit by a bottle?)

If the squad was fully fit, the last thing they'd have wanted was to risk injury ahead of the biggest game for Waterford in Decades. I think they probably did have one eye on the cup, I hope Longford have the same tonight.
That's not to say that we wouldn't have won anyway.

See thats your argument blown out of the water, the incident regarding the keeper apparently happened in the X when Dan had bottles thrown at him, then the hardmen who threw the bottles decided to congregate outside the ground to "get at him" after the match!!!!!How many times has George O'Callaghan made gestures toward us both in the X and the RSC????????
Am I not correct in believing there to of been an incident involving Pat Fenlon occuring in the X this season?????
Look ye beat us fair and square simple as that, although seeing Rennies sending off on EL Weekly last night,I have to say it was harsh.
We have a Cup Final to look forward to and thanks to us ye have a title run-in to look forward to(although we should of taken all 3 pts against Bohs, they scored with the last kick of the game) there's interesting days ahead!!!!

See thats your argument blown out of the water, the incident regarding the keeper apparently happened in the X when Dan had bottles thrown at him, then the hardmen who threw the bottles decided to congregate outside the ground to "get at him" after the match!!!!Even if your second hand account of the Dan Connor incident was correct, so what? It does not mean that CCFC fans have a reputation for making trouble. I am old enough to be the father of at least 50% of them, and I can see for myself what they are like. They are full of spirit and colour (except for regulars in certain sections of the Donie Forde stand). They travel in huge numbers all over Ireland and Europe. Their commitment and standard of behaviour are something which any club manager in the EL would love to have. OK, they sing songs which you will not hear on RTE. And yes, there are incidents with some CCFC fans which are so isolated, they have to be repeated again and again by rival club supporters to try to give a certain impression.
Here is what I saw. During the game, Connor made a number of outsanding saves. At the final whistle, he was totally pumped up, jumping and roaring. Nothing wrong with that. He opened a water bottle and drank some, and sprayed himself and some of his squad with it. Still all OK. As he came near the tunnel, there were a few children (my own child among them who was 10 at the time) hanging over the wall beside the tunnel, waiting for City players' autographs. A few jeers came from people in the stand. Connor apparently tried to spray at them, and the water got only as far as the children. This was not OK, IMO. The Garda standing nearby thought the same, and reported the incident. Apart from the jeers, I saw nothing thrown at Connor, and I was only a few feet away, looking directly down at him from the stand.
How many times has George O'Callaghan made gestures toward us both in the X and the RSC???????? What is the point of your question? No player should incite a crowd with gestures, but he is not our manager, so his actions have to be seen in a very different light.
Am I not correct in believing there to of been an incident involving Pat Fenlon occuring in the X this season????? Tell me more. Never heard this one.
. . . seeing Rennies sending off on EL Weekly last night, I have to say it was harsh. The EL coverage of the red card incident was decent enough. Looking at it frame by frame, the worst that could be said is that Reynolds attempted to punch or elbow Behan, and missed. And even that is not certain, so I agree. It looked harsh. Either the ref got it wrong, or the linesman saw more than the tape showed, as he looked at the play from a different angle.
