McPhail going to Shamrock Rovers could be one of the most important signings for the new season.
Unless I'm completely wrong, McPhail is registered to Sheffield Wednesday. He can't move to Rovers until July.

At which point they'll be involved in a relegation battle.

But it would still count as a transfer, no? As far as I know, once the LOI window is shut it's shut, unless you've been registered to nobody.

Once his contract is up he'll become a free agent.

I haven't seen him play in years but if he's still competing at Championship level he should be a good signing for Rovers

Even if his contract is up after that month he cannot play until the next uk transfer window.

You must have been a free agent during a window to be signed as a free agent outside the LOI windows.

Ya as above. We were signing Cecil Nyoni but because of when he became a free agent the FA stopped the transfer going through.

Not a free agent at the end of the window, can't sign for Rovers until July.

According to the Mirror, the window runs until February 22 and his contract expires on the 19th: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/MOVE+FOR+PATRICK'S+FINN+THE+BALANCE%3B+Croly+takes +time+over+Byskata...-a0356567541

Noticed he was on subs bench last night for Wednesday, shame he can't play from start of the season. (Was) a very skillful player but lack of pace did hold him back I would say.

Tee hee, there's always one Irish supporter of these English clubs on these message boards to talk trash about the local team. Just imagine if these supporters weren't completely beholden to English football, they might actually see more than a couple of games a season. Real football fans, you know, watching the odd match on Sky. God forbid they'd get to a Longford or Drogheda match, or wherever they come from.

Looks like the English Premier League have decided to adopt the Shamrock Rovers model: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/19689/9165327/chief-executive-richard-scudamore-confirms-plans-for-a-premier-league-b-league

When is the LoI transfer window? FIFA rule is that's it's 12 weeks around pre-season.

Papers are saying February 22 so I assume that's right. It's usually around the 21st/22nd.

The club is doing a billboard ad campaign around Cork for our first home game against Pats, good to see efforts being made to attract a wider support base.

That's a pretty big chip on your shoulder. Did someone from down south p*ss in your cereal or something?

I'm completely indifferent to Sligo but if I saw them run a decent advertising campaign I'd wish them well, as I'm sure most LOI fans would.

Cloughie was more of a vodka man in his jumper-over-a-shirt era.

Ah, c'mon. lighten up or you'll be in rehab by Xmas. Fair play on the campaign. Our marketing guys are fairly hot as well and I have long said that all clubs should be pooling ideas in this regard. Feed the Beast:cool:

Are Bohs likely to improve on last season's 10th place? I notice a good few in the predictions thread have them in their top 8.

Our squad is stronger and our manager seems to be too. I think we will improve a couple of places.

Of the clubs that finished above ye last year, which couples of clubs might ye finish above?

I think Bohs will finish ahead of UCD and Drogheda. Drogheda have a decent first 11 but no depth.

I think we have the potential to finish ahead of Bray, Athlone, UCD and perhaps Drogs and Limerick. I don't know, we'll see.
