simple solution... get yourself a seat in the stands for the next match..nobody will stand in front of you then.. anybody who buys a ticket for the terrace and expects everyone to sit down, not contribute to the atmosphere and clap politely is a disillusioned fool

Proper order. Fine response one bounce . Agree completely.

Wow, just looking at this thread all the way from the start.

I got a roasting the other day for suggesting we avoid English chants like "yer 'aving a larf" and yet people are knocking Come on You Boys in Green and Stand Up....

How?

Come on You Boys in Green has been the one constant since my first game at Lansdowne in the late-70s. It's our song and always will be.

Ole Ole I'm not so keen on but if it helps re-create the feel good vibe from 1989 then great, long may it last.

Que Sera Sera is corny but great for the same reason - it recaptures the mood of 1988.

There's a certain innocence to a lot of our songs that disassociates ourselves from the English with their far right rants of "English 'till I die" and all their World War 2 theme songs rubbish.

The lack of menace in our songs (and the general demeanour of our support) is something to be commended (Ole, Que Sera, Boys in Green, Stand Up, Walk Alone, The Fields, Ireland, Ireland etc.).

I bloody hate the wave though!

What we need, as a group of dedicated fans, is an official Irish supporters club. The people who are moaning here should get together with the EL fans and form a supporters club. The club should then meet and discuss strategies. Once you're organised, you can then approach Fran Rooney for the FAI's approval and take things a step further from there. I would gladly contribute\put myself forward to be on any founding committee.

A supporters club could work in tandem with Rooney regarding the atmosphere at Lansdowne. For instance, positioning of supporters, ticketing, printing new song sheets etc. Considering that we are going to have a new stadium in 4 years time, all these things are going to be important, and thats where having an official supporters club is important.

So who's going to practise what they preach?

Although I am not a member, I think there is an official supporters club, but they do not have a high profile

What's the "Fans' Section" all about on the new FAI website? Is this a platform to make an opinion?

I think most of our songs are fine. I'd like to hear a few more player specific songs (All You Need is Duff; Kilbane, It's Just Like Watching Zidane or something like that) so when a player does something of note the crowd spontaneously reacts, like at a club game, or like they do with "Keano".

I think the real key about atmosphere at games is once there's something to play for the crowd gets more involved.

The whole of the last campaign had a down tone because of McCarthy & Keane, and the crap start we got. Friendlies are never that atmospheric. Now we're in contention and everyone's excited and nervous the atmosphere has improved.

I cannot believe some of you lot!
Thank you to those who've done our fans proud and stood up ( ;) ) for those trying to make a bit of atmosphere!
Mexican wave goes round-JOIN IN! Ok fair play if you've got ya kid on your lap, you've got abad back, you're holding a fair few drinks but "it's to early in the game", "it was started by the other people", "I paid for a seat"-sorry but what a total load of CRA!P!!!
Join in, enjoy the game, join in with the chants, the songs, the waves, whatever-it'll sure as anything make the players feel better, give the young kids in the crowd a laugh (loved that wee girl sitting on her daddies shoulders singing Fields on tv)!
2 years ago was at a game (no teams mentioned but some of you will know what i'm on about ;)) and the opposition had been dead quite for the whole game while we had sung our hearts outevery second! Well they finally got a chant going (in fiarness it was their second of the game-first one lasted bout 30 seconds) so what did we do? Joined in! Why? BEcause it was fun, raised a great atmosphere, was friendly and after a minute of it we went back to singing our songs just as loudly!!!
some of your posts can be real old whinges-cheer on YOUR COUNTRY and get a bit of atmosphere going-make Lansdowne games something we can all be proud of! :D :ball:

Hi
First post, good site I like it,have been looking for a few weeks.
Anyway, was anyone else p1ssed off last night when the wave started,we were 1-0 up and finding it hard to break them down and then the ole's started followed by a mexican wave ,we were hardly cruising to a comfortable victory at that stage

Ole ole or mexican waves should never be sang/happen at ireland games.

who was ringing that bell in the crowd by the way ??. :D

He's this dude 12th that in the south terrace, he's got a tash and wear's a beret, look's p**sed all the time, he turned up late on wednesday night and announced his arrival by ringing that fceking bell.

Once question-why?

Why-not?

Its disgraceful to hear/see all the ireland fans doing it, there not irish songs and they are of no significance to ireland.

Or should i write it as Ingerland fans. There all just plastic paddys. Go to 3 games a year and think there the best fans in the world. Every other week of the year they do be sitting in their 'armchairs' or 'barstools' watching their beloved maure etc..

The Mexican wave has to be the most girly or faggy form of behavior at a soccer game - honestly can you do it without feling a pure twit?

We need a real anthem - when the Scots sing Flower of Scotland it gives me goose bumps - I suppose the the Fields is the best we have. Why not have Christy Moore & U2 blasted over the tannoy?

dodgy ground there pal, i take exception to that. you are making assumptions which you cant back up.

why should the number of games that someone goes to decide their support for their team / country?? id love to make evey game home and away, but most people have commitments such as work, and money to be mindful of. If you make evey game home and away fair fu*ks to you but dont judge eveyone else by your own high standards.

Im happy to watch ireland play regardless of the opposition, some of the 3 games a year crowd you refer to are taking up the slack of the people who only attend so called glamour ties and qualifyers.

sure the ole ole's and the mexican waves would still be going without the inclusion of ''plastics'' in the crowd.

I personaly havent seen any ingurland fans in the crowd at lansdowne, although i have heard some ''non plastics'' ;) ask if anyone knew the ingurland score at one game and when the highlights were on tv... prehaps you should focus your attentions to them first.

I'm 100% with Jon'O here-having said before I've only seen Ireland once but I've still been to every game I've had the oppurtunity to go to!
Work, age, kids, location, relatives, health-these are all factors and evryone should be made to feel welcome at Lansdowne not just 100% pure Irish, born in Ireland, EL fans who attend every single Ireland game and every single game of their EL club!!
As for 'Plastics' what's your complaint if we're turning up to support Ireland! I hang the tri out ma window for every Ireland game despite all the crap from the locals!
As for Mexican waves being 'girly or faggy' LadyJane summed that one up for us! One of ma biggest achievments to date involves starting a Mexican wave-4 of us getting a crowd of 5000 going :D

Whoo, hoo... two plastic bashers on at once, my day is made complete. What the hell does this post mean, do you think that the atmosphere would improve if you removed all plastics from the stadium, I've sat in the blocks with the London RISCC and they happen to be some of the more vocal. You would do well to remember that three games a season for people living in Ingerland involves at least two days off work and money for travel, hotels and drink. In effect every home game is an away match.

Also I can't stand manure.

I actually tend to agree that Ole, Ole and the Mexican wave can be annoying and not really conected with Ireland however until we have something to take their place... at least it produces some form of atmosphere. So don't just whinge about it do something, if you do already fair play to you.

Finally can you please set me a quota of games to go to before I can judge myself to be a fan.

He's talking about Ireland 'fans' whose usual experience of a football match is watching ManU on the telly down the pub wearing their ManU jersey. He didn't say anything about Irish people living in England.

No offence meant if I've taken this the wrong way, I've a bit of a hair trigger on this subject.

Did you ever sing this before in your entire footballing supporting life - 'Ole ole ole ole, ole... We're all part of jackies army, we're all off to Italy, and we'll really shake them up when we win the world cup, cos Ireland have the greatest football team'

Remember that ? ? ? 1990, if 'ole ole ole' has no significance to Irish soccer, what planet were you on during our first trip to the world cup? IMO it is one of the memories of Irelands trip to italia 90 that will stay in our minds forever!! Honestly, I'll take your answer as gospel, did you or did you not sing along to that?? If you were in a club and the DJ dropped it, would you sit it out with a pout on your face because 'there not irish songs and they are of no significance to ireland'

That miserable gut-wrencher of a 'song' The Fields of Athenry has no direct affinity to Scotland either, yet it doesn't stop all of those irritating, tedious smarmy Celtic fans singing it.... :p

Anyone who partakes in a mexican wave (outside of mexicans) is an idiot. Likewise anyone who sings any Olé crap...

Actually the so called mexican wave was not started by mexican fans at all, it wax started by american college football fans

Don't know who exactly started the wave but I know for definate that it DID start because some muppit spilled a hot cup of coffee(Nescafe I think)on some other fans lap and the poor fella jumped off his seat with his hands in the air and the rest of the stadium followed him. ;) :D

I have an extreme aversion to joining in the mexican wave and I'm not too keen on the Ole Ole song, but if everyone else does them I'm quite happy as sitting in a ground with a sh#te atmosphere is pretty dull.

I won't do it and I'm what some of you people would call a Plastic Paddy, but it takes all sorts to fill a stadium hey ?!

I know plenty of 'Irish' fans who have never been to a f#cking game in their life and they only live up the road from Lansdowne. Good on the boys who travel miles and spend good money on just getting to a home game.

Those in the East Lower who spent more time trying to start mexican waves than watching the game deffo fell into the tw@t category.

What is the story with people like you just randomly slating a large category of ticket-paying number of fans who just so happen to be in one particular area of the ground. Don't be such an injoking ********, please. It sounds unbelievably pathetic when fans of the same team in the same ground start rollicking on about how their set of seats shows more commitment than another's. Please, make it stop.
