The result last nite was brutal. Decent enough first half but should of had another 2 or 3 goals in the second half. Rubbish finishing all round. Quite disappointed but 3 points are 3 points. It wont come down to goal difference anyway as long we dont draw 1-1 with the Swiss. Am I right?? :confused:

Technically it wont come down to goal difference unless we're joint second, in which case you're assuming we will be and that Switzerland will be the other team.
I don't agree however.
I think we'll top the group!
France/Israel/Switzerland can fight it out for second.

Head to head results don't apply in world cups. Goal difference will separate teams who finish level on points.
There are a few scenarios where this will count
1) Topping the group - realistically head to head with France
2) Runner up - head to head with Israel or the Swiss - we'd beat Israel on GD prob but not the Swiss.
3) Possible best runner up for automatic qualification - goal difference could decide here- Poland already look good for this with 3 away wins.
However it was still a good eprformanc elast night apart from the wayward finishing.

I'm going to tell you that you're wrong and then go to look it up.
As far as I know, if two teams are level on points it's the head to head results between those two teams that will be considered first and then goal difference.
Off to look that up now....

Sorry guys just checked the regulations and it looks like I am wrong.
It is the games between the 2 teams first but unlike UEFA away goals don't appear to count - the goes to goal difference pdf file so can't quote from it.

It's easy when you know how... ;)
In the league system the ranking in each group is determined as follows:
(a) greater number of points obtained in all the group matches;
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above criterion, their ranking shall be determined as follows:
(b) greater number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
(c) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
(d) greater number of goals scored in the group matches between the teams concerned;
(e) goal difference in all the group matches;
(f) greater number of goals scored in all the group matches;
(g) a play-off on neutral ground.
