De Town are 1 nil down, with a minimum of 90 minutes to get to the premier playoff on Monday.
I believe we will need 3 goals as we don't want it to go to extra time and I just can't see Mervue not scoring on the night
a 1 nil win for Lt means a draw and extra time, a 2-1 win to Lt means a draw and extra time as well, so just to be on the safe side and avoid some of us having heart attacks in the last 10 minuets lets hope for the best crowd and team performance of the season and get some early goals settle down and play like we can
Nervous as !!!!

rhys gorman said hes fully fit for the game which should mean tc can drop derek o brien and start purdy and ebbe... chances on that happening, slim...

Tc cannot play let alone start O' Brien again, he has to know that everything good from Mervue starts on the wings, I am not going to rant about O' Brien again but jasus you'd have to be blind not to see he isn't up to/for it.
The way I see it is our wingers have to stop their backs, our backs have to stop their wingers, our midfield stop their midfield that just leaves long balls from their keeper they don't play that way they are all about quick ball counter attack up the wings and across to the midfield and strikers running onto the ball,
We need fit guys that can cope with their pace, if we do all that we will win this tie, asking a lot but I think we will do it

Looking forward to tomorrow night. Although this has the resemblance of the time we beat harps in the play off. Home team wins 1-0 in first leg and second game goes to penalties with the away team winning. Hope I'm wrong that the outcome tomorrow isn't the same!! C'mon the Town!!

For anone who can't make the game there is full coverage on shannonside radio. Think that must be the first time since our last European game at home, good on them!

"That's entertainment". Though if we were a little less generous it'd be no bad thing. Sully is a hero.

Hi folks, first post...

I was sure the Civil Defence were going to have to cart me away after that game - neither my heart nor my nerves could take much more!

Ryan Connolly fully deserved to be MOTM; he must have covered every last inch of the pitch!

The only downside to the win is that De Town didn't take care of business in normal time. They're going to have to dig deep with only two days to rest before the next game...

Always the hard way, Jasus what were we at, the game should have been over
Sully should have stayed down for a free kick, set up wall take kick, goal, or goal kick, or corner, game over.
Failing that he should have passed, he had 2 players who were in better positions than him to score, that would have been 4-2, then we try and hold the ball in the corner with 2 minutes left, they get the ball hold on to possession and score with the last kick of the game, sickening,
but on a happier note, you all know how I feel about Bennion and O' Brien (both still striving for adequacy), but I though by his standards O Brien was better last night, great penalty cool, calm, and collective. Bennion absolutely brilliant for the penalties,
we have had tons of bad luck and refs since the transfer window but lady luck must think it's payback time because we might be self distructing but we are getting away with it,
I am absolutely trilled for the club team and supporters I can't stop smiling nearly had a heart attack almost cried (but will save that for next week) the game had everything couldn't be happier with the result
roll on Monday

Sully went from hero to double hero to villan back to hero again by scorig 2 goals then not passing the ball and killing the game but then he stepped up as if nothing had happened and put away to best of best of penalties, truly epic.

Chris bennion deserves a medal for his performance last night he was injured after making a save he should never had have to make thanks to the linesman and he played through the pain to get us to bray!

I'd love to see the stats court from that game because I can't remember a game when we create so any opportunities it must have been in the region of 25-30 chances but as ever mervue were brilliant on the counter attack and there was nothing we could do at times to stop it. The fact the league is losing them is a sad indictment on Irish football.

I could end this post without a huge word on the fans last night they were without a doubt the 12th man. Section O was literally rocking while it always brings a tear to my eye when I see the entire stand on it's feet for stand up if your Longford town and that's very often it happens. Well done to everyone and see you for the bray invasion on Monday night because believe me we are going to take over the Carlise!

Couldn't make either leg of this round so cannot wait for Bray on Monday. Play to the best of our abilities, see where it leaves us and get them back to a rocking CCS on Friday!

Incredible game, thank god we came out on the right side of it!Felt like last years playoff all over again when Mervue scored early to kill the buzz around the place!Fair play to the lads for battling through,we had so many chances! The heavy rain in the first half suited us and stopped Mervue playing it around the ground!Though Ryan Connolly was man of the match,he was absolutely everywhere!Credit obviously to Sully,Bennion and low and behold Chris Deans who I thought had the game of his life last night..

Deans getting better the more he plays alright Bosco, have to agree with all the positive comments,
De Town went 1 nil down against Athlone and won, they went 2 nil down (on aggregit) against Mervue and won, maybe we need to go 1 nil down in Bray to beat them as well

wot can I say! I never seen a game with so many highs and lows... Bosco is dead right the rain was the game changer... I was very emotional after the game and was near tears... I didnt think we had it in us for the peno shootouts but fair play to Chris Bennion! He was superb and thoroughly deserves Section O player of the month for October! Thought Purds goal was top drawer! Have vague memories of the other two goals for us..

It was the best ever atmosphere in CCS ever! I think next week will be tough for us but I think our luck is beginnin to turn! Roll on Monday for the drinkin and the footie!

I would just like to say that I was absolutely disgusted by the booing during the penalty shoot-out. A serious lack of respect for the opposition last night.

I for one didn't boo myself as it's not something I agree with and most people around me seemed to have the same attitude but to be honest I just think it's something that happens within football and if it does make an away team uncomfortable then what they hey but one of my favorite moments after the game last night was the entire stand staying back to applaud the mervue lads off the pitch it was very emotional to see the likes of tom kings in tears after the game and I for one am gutted to see that team leaving LOI football, they are a joy to watch.

Coukdnt make it down, so great to have the Shannonside coverage. Was convinced we'd thrown it away with the equaliser so late.

I listened to Shannonsider FM for the match, great lads, far better than the disinterested lot for 95FM.

Totally agree with the booing for the penos that's just not on. Shout anything you want (within the moral codes) during the game if you want, but not during penos.
I know some good peno takers and they all say silence is worse you really fell the pressure then.
Also agree Mervue should not be disbanded I think they were the best footballers in the division, I know the results say otherwise, but I didn't seem to mind as much losing to them.
When they beat us at least it was with good football not lucky deflections or biased refs and linesmen, I wonder could we get a few of them for next season now they won't have a club some of them might be interested

What, dropping my monocle?

Should just bar all noise inside a ground. Every game played in perfect respectful silence.

No one said anything about barring all noise inside a ground. Its also very easy to respect your opposition, and there isn't a thing wrong with it.

Like I said I'm sure if you watch any penalty shoot out around Europe or even South America you will hear the same it's just something within football, our fans were extremely respectful of mervue by clapping them off the pitch.

2-2 final score, Longford come back from two first half Byrne goals. Bray the better team by most accounts. No away goals as far as I know, so tie is interestingly poised going into the second leg on Friday.
