Didn't see a thread for him. Gone for a three month jolly out in the L2 playoff shakeup with Southend, from Wigan, can play CB or CM and has played u19 & u21 for us, he is 22 now. Watford academy player originally, turned down an extension there in '11.

Made his Wigan debut as a 75th minute substitute this afternoon, helping them to a clean sheet against high-flying Derby. His Wigan future suddenly looks a lot brighter under his former coach at Brentford, Uwe Rosler.

Like many Irish defenders; Kiernan's versatility could prove to be a blessing or a curse!
Out of contract at the end of the season, he probably would have been destined for a drop down the divisions under previous managers but Rosler's appointment looks like it will have a very positive effect on his career.

First league start for Kiernan this afternoon, at home to Watford.
No Sean Murray in the match day squad for Watford.

Uwe Rosler said he was: absolutely excellent - dominant & commanding & is motivated every single day.
Also received lots of requests for him to be loaned out.

A handful of league appearances and now Kiernan is in front of the media at every available opportunity complaining about not getting an international call up. How utterly shameless.

Two videos of the goal on youtube both with the goal so close to the start you miss it it you blink.
Here is one, the mind boggles are to why someone would make a video like that!!!

Well I guess they are filmed by fans so we should be greatfull to them for anything
I assume that is all the footage they have rather than consigning the build up to the goal
to the dustbin.

He must be living on another planet if he thinks he will be called up in May. The lad hasn't made any more than a dozen appearances at any one club and about a dozen overall above 4th division level. Stability and consistency first, International honours later.
Nice to have younger options playing at a good level though. Duffy, Hoban, Long, O'Brien, Kiernan.... Duffy is the only one I think is anywhere near getting into squads.

Paddy, I think you're missing the sarcasm in Charlie's post. The clue lies in the Richard Keogh thread!
It's not a position we're desperate for cover in but every extra option helps. Rosler appears to be no mug so it's a good sign he has faith in Kiernan.

Thanks for that.
There is something weird about that goal, it looks as though was an own goal, it seems to come off two players.
Indeed I am not sure Kiernan touched the ball at all.
But clearly (well as clear as can be made out) if you track the path of the goal back it comes off the defenders head.
However I think Kiernan does get a glancing touch on it, but the movement of the balls not consistent with one touch
the balls seems to 'slide' ie the position on it's inward path is not consistent with the outward path, if you see what I mean.
Still I doubt defender will be keen to claim it, although does seem to throw his arms up in celebration!!!!!!!!!!

And many of your posts range from enthusiasm to moaning! I await The Doc's comments on Kiernan. Another possible CB to be ridiculed!

Defender Rob Kiernan was singled out for special praise by Rosler after scoring his first senior goal against the Foxes and impressing in only his third league start for the club.
The German, who replaced Owen Coyle as Wigan boss in December, told BBC Radio Manchester "He played his first game against Watford, then QPR and then tonight. You can't get harder than that.
"The way he played with and without the ball was excellent. The boy can go a long way."

He was playing on the left side of a three man defence with Boyce and Ramis. You're lucky you only saw bits of it as it was a brutal game. Wigan were poor and the only reason they won was that Leeds are garbage at the moment. I noticed Roy was there, I wonder did he manage to stay until the end. He must have been watching Kiernan as I don't think there was any other Irish player on view. McClean did come on late on but I'm sure he already knows what he can (and can't do!).

A move up the Championship table for Kiernan. Would have played under Rowett during his loan spell at Burton Albion in 2012/2013 so Rowett knows what he's getting.

From sub at relegated Wigan to potential permanent move to second half of season performers Birmingham. Stephen Gleeson had a good year at Birmingham and I really hope Gavin Gunning can come back better from his injury after showing much potential in Scotland.

Agreed. Looks like there were issues with his medical at Birmingham before Mark Warburton, with whom he seems to have a good relationship, nipped in. I will say that Warburton seems to be a fine coach/manager and the two young centre halves at Brentford thrived under him this season. Still though, silly move only made sillier if they fail to go up this season again.

Utterly baffling move to make at such a crucial age when he has finally nailed down a place as a regular Championship starter, at a top 12 standard team no less.

If he was making a move with a view to having an International career he would have signed with Birmingham.
“The manager asked if I’d played right-back before and I replied: ‘Yes, lots of times’. I’d never played there before in my life.

I had high hopes for him after his move to Birmingham , now after this negative set back I would be glad for someone to close the thread on him

I wouldn't be too quick to lash into him. Birmingham will not be challenging for promotion in any shape or form next season, and might be drawn into a relegation battle. So that would be too seasons before he's looking at a Premier League tilt anyway.
Rangers under Warburton could blow away the Championship next season, nay, they should do it. So for the start of the 2016 season, Kiernan more than likely will be playing for one of the best supported clubs in Europe, and in the top flight on a regular basis. Chances are if they get off to a flyer and he's playing well, he'll be looked at by top half Scottish PL teams.
I have to be honest, I think it's worth the risk.
Charlie Darwin
29/06/2015, 2:33 PM
People said Rangers would blow away the Championship last year too. They're a basket case of a club.
Kingdom
29/06/2015, 3:12 PM
I understand that. But they'd a good Hearts and a good Hibs side in their way before taking on Motherwell. It won't be anywhere near as tricky next season. A head to head with Hibs will be the league decider.
Charlie Darwin
29/06/2015, 3:24 PM
St Mirren will be looking to go straight back up and Falkirk will be good too, plus Hibs' young team will have a year's extra experience. There won't be a runaway winner like Hearts but that doesn't mean it'll be easy.
It is a weird move. I he a bit head mental?
Although I cant wait for the boo boys to launch into him if/when he gets a cap for us!

It's a funny one. I don't know how aware he is of his Irish heritage being from England, but he may well not know what he's getting into.
Olé Olé
29/06/2015, 11:05 PM
Very strange. In one of the links in the previous page he states that "my family are all Irish". I guess he isn't quite as aware of the possibility of a negative reaction as he was born and reared in England. Or maybe he thinks something so petty couldn't possibly occur which would be nice, if not a little idealistic.

Fair play to the lad for not letting the ridiculous sectarian nonsense get in the way of move. In this day and age things like that should be in the past. It's not as if he's moving from Celtic (or an ex-Celt) to Rangers. The only problem I have is the standard. Playing Championship football in Scotland won't get him a call-up.
