No talk of the match here in Derry, all about Pizza resigning.
Why? After a 3-2 win tonight, stone's throw off the end of the season. Seems strange.

Harps were one of the title favorites pre-season so to be where they are is simply not good enough, 1 result tonight doesnt gloss over whats gone on before. For the size of a squad that they have they should be challenging for promotion, this is no surprise to FD fans at all.

Poor season alright but why announce it now? May as well have waited till after the last game. Is he even going to be in charge for it?

Would surprise me Derry should have done better this term but sacking devine would be harsh, pizza hasnt proved himself either.

I'd guess making a point with it being the last home game of the season. I'd say after his comments a few weeks ago he wasn't going to be kept on for next season (and Harps pretty disastrous season) so this makes it clear that he walked rather than being sacked.

'Resigned'. Harps have been disastrous for the second half of the season. Should be pushing for promotion this year. Sitting 25 points off Athlone after tonight isn't good enough.

Yeh a Harps fan mentioned to me after the game that Hutton is taking over at Derry. Obviously might not be true. Heard he quit at half time?? Again might not be true.

Someone from Athlone was saying during the week Roddy Collins could be going to Derry.

Peter had told the players before the game that he resigned.
He has a 3 match ban so he would essentially be heading to Salthill to sit in the clubhouse. He didnt see the point in this so decided to use this game as his last. Sean McGowan will take charge of the final game of the season.
Rumours flying about that he has already agreed to take Derry job for next season but he is just keen to get a break now. He has a young family who he rarely sees. He's looking forward to spending some time with them now.

Not being funny, but why would Derry sack their manager and give him the job? Apart from being a club legend, it's not like his CV is any better than Devine's.

Don't think the managers job at Derry would be a very good move. He definitely needs two or three years as assistant to a big name manager before going back into management. Made a lot of big mistakes in charge at Harps and has very much to learn.

Even so, they'd have to pay off the remainder of Devine's contract to even hire him. That's a few weeks worth of gate receipts before they've even started.

Yeah Roddy has been saying he could be going to any number of places to plenty of people - he is in demand you know

There's a good reason why the Ireland job hasn't been filled yet.
Sligo Hoops.

Roddy could come back to Rovers. Remember the successful job he did the last time.

Are Finn Harps expecting Sean McGowan to step up to the manager's job full time or is there any indication yet of who they might look at to replace Hutton?
I would imagine he will be one of the applicants.

Yep. Same one. Can't see him taking Harps on to be honest. Derry most likely route.

Oh, sweet Jesus - give it to Paul Gascoigne and be done with it.
O Riordan seems to have been pretty decent at Galway United, but not so hot at Sligo. Sligo's record in and around the time he was there:
Sligo in and around when O Riordan was there:
2000/2001: D1 fourth, 2 points off playoffs
2001/2002: 6th of 9, well adrift
2002/2003: 6th of 12, 5 points off playoffs
2003 6th of 12, 11 off playoffs
2004: 7th of 12, way adrift

Sligo fans, did O'Riordan not bring through alot of local lads at the time?? Cretaro being one of them??
Any info on him?

'Squeeze' is the buzzword with The Don. Clueless.
Haha.. I remember shouting that at him constantly now that you mention it.

Don did very well at GUFC and was well thought of by most United fans. He came to the club when we had a very low budget, to combat this he brought through a lot of local youngsters, he formed great youth structures (our underage teams walked the local Leagues and won a National title), he got us promoted to the Premier Division and kept us up for a few seasons and got us to two Cup semis with little resources. He also did a lot of good stuff behinds the scenes such as running summer football camps all over Galway and was not afraid to help out behind the scenes at all. I can't remember any of our recent managers doing anything like that for a very long time. He's a gent and did a good job for us, I'd like to think he will be seriously thought of as a candidate for Galway F.C. if that ever even comes to pass. If not, I think he would be a great appointment for somebody like Harps who have a lot of potential with very decent players in the USL and the possibility of nabing some disgruntled players off Derry, given a decent run of form you would get the crowds back at Finn Park.

Indeed, Don made the costly mistake of trying to bring through local talent in Sligo. Not the brightest of ideas.

John Gill and Declan Devine supposedly have thier names in the hat for Harps job.
Looks like Devine was looking for an upgrade a few weeks ago...... or possibly knew he was getting the boot?? I prefer the first theory.

Both ideal candidates to be Sean Connor's right hand man.

More bad news for Harps. Nutsy Fenlon sacked by Hibs so Seanie is a shoe in for that job.
