As both cup final sides each year have a former great from their club entered into the LOI Hall of Fame/Roll of Honour award. Just wondering who the people on this forum think should be the Longford Candidate for this years award. Previous Longford winners were John donlon in 2001 and Zac Hackett Last year. My preference would be Richie Parsons as he served the club well over two different stints with the club and is still our all time leading goalscorer. Any other suggestions..?

Stephen O' Brien has always served the club well and i think the main stand should be named after him.
Stuart Byrne, always gave 100% in the Town jersey and probably our greatest midfielder ever.

I think someone of an earlier vintage and of local extraction might be more appropriate. How about Pascal"The Master" Quinn or Jimmy Savage. :ball:

I had given Jimmy Savage some consideration as my da rated him very highly and always described him as a very stylish player, but I am too young to ever rember him playing. Another local player from the early eighties who could be worth a mention would be "PoP" Cunningham who was an excellent Center Half as I remember.

as an outsider, I would have thought that Digger or Vinny Perth would be the obvious candidates

How about the grate 'Christy Campbell', he was a big help getting us Promoted and getting to the 1st league cup Final.....
As Stephen Kenny's 2nd man he was never realy recgognised for all the work he put in behind the scenes and he still goes to a lot of the Town games...
Worth a thought.

Couldn't agree more about Stuart Byrne always giving 100% and has been our best midfielder since we joined the premier league, and we still have not replaced him, but I would have rated Dave Savage as a better midfielder than him. ( I know Dave Savage played right side of midfield and not in the centre like Stewie but I still think Savage was a better player.)

Yeah Dave Savage wasn't bad but he only ever played 1st division football here and for me there is no comparison.I'd agree with the Christy Campbell nomination because it dosen't have to be a player and other than one or two players there are not that many who stand out from previous teams and anyone who was good back then jumped ship pretty quickly and to me loyalty to LTFC has to be taken into account.Keith O Connor served us well and his contribution in our promotion season was enormous and it would be nice if it was recognised.Mark Devlin came & went a few times but he wasn't a bad footballer plus he flew home from England to play the qtr final cup match against Athlone in Abbeycartron and old Leo has always followed the Town home & away when most other people couldn't be arsed.I think the Devlin family in general has made a positive contribution to the club which shouldn't be ignored even though i don't like young or old Leo.
