no,but i would say their assistance was greatly appreciated.
so not only did the grounds men make the pitch small and unplayable (for the pike team only) they some how had an effect of the players that took to the pitch in regards attitude , will to win, and desire which is what i seen from the balla team and what was totally lacking from a pike team . some ground staff balla have next stop old trafford for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geraldines 6-1 Summerville Rovers
After the first-half abandonment of last week's FAI Junior Cup clash between these two sides, many observers were hoping for more fireworks this morning in Rathuard. Sadly what we got was more of a damp squib. A completely dominant performance from Geraldines and a result that was never in doubt.
In a similar fashion to Saturday night's League clash between Aisling and Granville, this game was decided by the numerical advantage in midfield. The Dines' midfield three of Keith O'Connor, Christy O'Neill and Colin Daly were able to pass around the Summerville midfield two of (former Carew man) Cyril Maher and Kuba Donanski. The home side retained the ball well in the opposition half, thus allowing them get left full back Craig Madigan forward. His interplay on the left side with Colin Scanlon was magnificent, with Colin going inside and giving Craig space to overlap. The latter chipped in with two assists, while the former bagged 4 goals for himself. Pienaar and Baines (or Oviedo recently) eat your hearts out!
The first goal, after 20 minutes, came in a more, shall we say, traditional fashion. A long ball from the back was misjudged by Summerville right full Philip Naughton. Scanlon collected in behind and finished with a relatively tame near post effort. Goalkeeper Mike Costelloe will be disappointed that he was unable to get down to it.
Five minutes later the away side had their first chance - striker Sean Fitzgerald, who gave an extremely committed performance on the day, found right winger Darren O'Sullivan with a lofted pass. He shot just over.
Minutes later, however, the Dines' midfield advantage led to profit . Christy O'Neill made an untracked run into the box to get on the end of a through ball. Summerville left back James O'Donnell brought him down near the byline with a poor challenge. No arguments about the penalty decision from the away touchline. Scanlon converted his second from the spot.
With a half hour on the clock, it was three. Scanlon showed great strength and technique to evade a couple of challenges on the left touchline and keep the ball in play. He engaged in a nice one-two with Madigan before crossing for striker Pa Moloney to finish it off. Fantastic goal.
Summerville found a lifeline, however, three minutes from half-time. A free kick from the left evaded the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Keith McCarthy, under challenge from an opposition player. Striker Darren "Daz" O'Sullivan was on hand to make it 3-1.
Hope was short lived though. Right on the stroke of half-time, a Christy O'Neill corner from the left was headed in by an untracked Paul Danaher. Awful goal to concede and an awful time to concede it. 4-1.
The second half was a turgid affair to be frank. Summerville made two changes at half time, introducing former Limerick striker Robbie Kelleher up top, and Niall O'Brien in midfield, but the shape remained the same, and therefore so did the pattern of the match. Geraldines took their collective foot off the gas, but they were still able to notch two further goals, both coming from the Madigan/Scanlon axis. Both were crosses from the left from the former and both were finished in the box by the latter (on 46 and 80 minutes respectively).
A day where very little went right for the away side. Summerville will need to think carefully about how to approach the next clash between the sides, when they meet on the 19th in Jackman Park to fulfil their abandoned FAI fixture. The can't allow the Dines to dominate possession of the football as they did today.
Geraldines are completely transformed since I last saw them in June. They started today with a 4-2-3-1 rather than the 4-1-2-3 of last season, with Colin Daly supporting striker Moloney and O'Neill and O'Connor behind. In truth the midfield triangle was rather fluid, however, and often O'Neill and Daly took it in turns to play the number 10 role. Indeed at times, it looked like the 4-1-2-3 of old too, as O'Neill bombed on, safe in the knowledge that the holder O'Connor was the spare man in the midfield battle and was unlikely to be threatened on the counter. One observation I made of the side a few months ago was that they needed footballing defenders in order to implement their desired philosophy. The presence of midfielders-by-trade Tier and Madigan in the full back positions certainly spoke of progress, while the relationship between the latter and inside forward Colin Scanlon (both of whom arrived in the close season from Fairview) was fearsome. The presence of striker Pa Moloney, and the ability that he demonstrated today to drop off and drag defenders with him is also a huge plus, and a big departure from the way in which he seemed to be instructed to play last season for his previous club. I wouldn't rule anything out for this side this season.
Geraldines (4-2-3-1): McCarthy; Tier, Danaher (Fitzgerald), Storan, Madigan; O'Neill, O'Connor; Lee (D. Daly), C. Daly, Scanlon; Moloney (Hannon)
Summerville Rovers (4-4-2): Costelloe; Naughton, Collins, Shine, O'Donnell; Cleary (Kelleher), Kuba (O'Brien), Maher, O'Sullivan; O'Sullivan, Fitzgerald
