A lot of money lost today paddy power cleaned up
new blood
01/12/2013, 6:10 PM
Boro got out of the game exactly what they put in nothing at all !!!! below average performances from the entire team
it was a below average performance from both Boro and Pike, Boro were harmless, Tierney was the best player on the pitch, shane clarke never turned up and I cant see Pike or any Limerick team winning the Fai this season, the management team of the Boro have to be questioned too, they had no 2nd plan

Agree with newblood on the game but very much with hightackle - without a strong defensive display, Pike would've been in trouble. Great games from Neville, Mullins, Enright, Hartnett, Boris, Carroll and Tierney. The other 15 players on the pitch were average, bar maybe Hurley for Boro. Showed great heart and 1st time he's ever shown himself as a good Boro man for me.

Pike will take some stopping this year!
To say it was a poor game is clueless...both semis last year were exactly like this..Top team canceling each other out...was nothing in it til the first goal and when the Boro keeper dropped the ball for the second it was game over as going 3 at the back v Pike is a recipe for disaster.
Taught Enright was the beat player on the park.

Agree Topper Pikes back 4 were excellent. Young mullins Jason I think started a bit nervous but he got to grips with it as the game wore on.Had a tough job in marking Shane Waters but in fairness to him over the 90 minutes he came out on top.Shane Clarke was well marshalled by P Mullins and Colm Enright and as you said Colm was very good I thought Pikes midfield of Boyle and OShea were outstanding.they never let ogorman or lyons get their foot on the ball.Tierney and hartnett wete their usual self busy as bees especially Tierney who was outstanding Collins was playing well until he had to go off injured and Seamus Carroll was outstanding all through the 90 mins. Why Janesboro played clarke up top on his own was baffling. Will take a very good side to stop on yesterdays second halfs performance. Well worth the 5.if AOB was at the game im sure he would say the Mullins was exceptional. I heard also the reason he went off was his missus went into labour at the game and gave birth shortly later.cingrats to both him and his missus.

There's a full play-by-play report (by Tom Rooney) on Junior Soccer Portal so I'll just add some of my own tactical observations:
- Apart from TopperHarley above, I've yet to hear anyone give Colm Enright the credit that he deserves for his performance yesterday. In fact, in reference to Shane Clarke's lack of impact on the game, I overheard two Pike fans say that "Mullins had him in his pocket". Enright was the blocker on the day and was in contact far, far more often with Shane. Time and time again he got the foot in for the interception or won the aerial challenge. He was fantastic.
- Boro did two things well in the first half - firstly, they effectively man-marked John Tierney (through Aidan Hurley), something I've been calling for time and time again here. Secondly, they channeled their play down the left through Shane Waters in an obvious attempt to target Pike right full Jason Mullins. Jason committed three fouls in the first 25 minutes on Shane, incurring a yellow card. The decision by the Boro management to take Shane off that side and put him up front at 0-2 was a mistake (although in their defence they were being screamed at by Clarke about how he was "on his own up there" minutes earlier).
- Pike were also targeting Donnan at right full, and Cian Collins got in behind him a number of times. He was unlucky to have an effort cleared off the line by Lee O'Mara. Shame for the lad that his hamstring went. Still, his replacement Boris made the difference, scoring one and making two.
- The aforementioned change of shape from Boro happened at 0-2, and struck me as a bit haphazard. At first it looked like a 4-4-2, with O'Gorman dropping back from the 10 position into midfield, sub Nash going left wing and Waters joining Clarke up top. Within minutes, however, it had switched to a 3-4-1-2 system, with left full Harkin going into the middle with Hurley, and O'Gorman back in the 10 position (this time behind two strikers). This meant that striker-by-trade Declan Nash was covering a flank by himself. Pike targeted it, and it was no surprise when the third came from a free kick from that side.
- Either side of Boris' opener, Boro had a one-on-one opportunity that they spurned. James Hayes was sent clean through by a lucky richochet in the first half and the disappointing Mike O'Gorman should have benefited from a loss of possession by Jason Mullins early in the second half. Neither could convert.
- Pike also deserve a lot of credit for the way they pressed in midfield and prevented Boro from creating passing sequences.

Read 2 posts above you.Im sure you would agree that Pike had no need for concerns regarding Mullins as you posted previously. By the way forgot to mention Gary Neville s save from Thonas Clarke. It was unreal how he got down to it.Is FAI on again next week??

Your post had not yet been made when I pressed reply.
Neville's save was mentioned in Tom's report. It was indeed fantastic.
This Mullins thing has been blown way out of proportion. I reported on a poor performance from him against Aisling. I didn't question his ability as a defender. In the end, you're right - Pike needn't have had any concerns. But then he wasn't under any pressure. He was cover for Enright up against one striker for most of the game. I don't recall him needing to make one covering challenge in that period, such was the dominance of his partner in that battle.

What you said was Pike would have concerns about pa in their upcoming big games.pike would never have concerns about pa you obviously dont know that.pa got in as many challenges as colm did yesterday they took it in turns to deal with him.no goal again from play from probably the best striker in junior football.seamus carroll gave the watching junior international manager food fir thought.

Seamus O'Carroll was indeed very good. He mostly played to the left of centre, targeting Lee O'Mara who hasn't had much game time recently, skinning him impressively on more than one occasion. Obviously he pounced on Glasheen's spill for the second goal, but he could have been more clinical with the two good chances that he was presented with in the first half. Still, in any game where Pike are expected to come up against a deep defence (which is most games), he'd be the striker they should be picking. Healy, on the other hand, is a great option off the bench on the counter if Pike are defending a lead.
Certainly have a much more rounded squad than last year.

Nice of the LDMC to offer Jackman Park for the re-fixed fixture between Geraldine's and Summerville for only a cool €300. That on top of ref and linesman fees and to play the game will cost the bones of €500. Christmas shopping lists must be very pricey this year.
