Hey all

Just wondering what date your home game against Finn Harps will be played. Looking into organising a bus to it but both the Harps and Longford websites have the date down as TBC. Please let it be a Saturday as i probably won't be able to make a Friday game

Hardly a midweek game? Don't they normally play 2 rounds midweek over the season??

That is what I'm beginning to think. Its a balls if it is, as I had planned on this being my next(and most likely last) away trip this season. Probably won't make a Friday and defiantly not a mid-week game due to work commitments

I'd be happy with that but can never rely on RTE when it comes to the LOI especially the 1st Division

Lads I'd be nearly sure it's the Saturday night. I think the reason it's down as TBC is because the Ireland match is Friday night and the FAI probably have the whole round of fixtures as TBC. Don't take it as a certainty but I'd be confident that's the reason behind it

TC said on Shannonside before waterford game he was injured. Agree with you Fitzy to go from top to hanging on from Mervue is disgraceful and what's even worse is its been let happen by keeping a totally inept manager in charge. Surely he must go if we are humiliated on Saturday night as I expect harps to win 3 or 4-0

You couldn't be playing us at a better time. We sent the second string to Cobh last week and are likely to experiment again this week (although Hutton may decide against it obviously) as the only important match of our season is the cup quarter final the weekend after.

All that and we're not very good anyway, so you really, really should be beating us.

I predicted earlier in the year that Longford might crumble due to Cousins having a bit of history on that front. I'm not even sure how a manager can do that, but he seems to have the knack.

Well the 2nd string murdered Cobh and they beat us 4-3,
Cousins has to grow a pair and drop O' Brien, tell Bennion to pass the ball and stop hoofing it over our midfield, (Connelly and Gorman can pass the ball), also play the young lad that played right back against Drogheda and please give Ebbe a run for more than 10 minutes, play an attacking/pressurised style of football and keep doing it not just until we score and then drop back to defend,
Wishful thinking I suppose but we can dream

Jamie Mulhall I think. He was signed for the u19s, not sure from which club. I think three or four of the u19s were signed on amateur forms to give cover for the first team.

Don't get me wrong James Mulahll is a superb player but why would you drop Havo at right back he is superb going forward he's been our best defender the last 2 seasons! Cousins had a chance to change things up for the Waterford game and surprise them with the pace of Josh and Ebbe but just as we all knew he'd do he stuck with the same rigid crap he puts out every week. Purdy made a great impact when he came on but I bet hel be dropped again for the harps game. What the hell is he thinking playing O'Neill wide right since he is a holding midfielder! The more I talk about it the more annoyed I get the man is clueless!

Those 2 points you've made just goes to show what we've been saying for months. TC takes favourites and takes dislike to certain players such as Purdy and Macker, it's disgraceful management.

I usually find that the easiest way to find out your team's starting lineup is by going to the game Nidge. Harps fans like a moan about the long trips they have to endure, but yet they couldn't be arsed going on the shortest trip they have yesterday simply because they've nothing to play for.

For the record, Gallagher was in goals. Cowan was centre back. McCarron was up front. That's all I can do for you. Only need another 8 now.

We could have scored 7 or 8 last night but equally we could have conceeded 3 or 4 but considering that wasn't our usual back 4 to concede only 1 is a good return.

Cousins finally gave Ebbe a go and look what happened. The highlight of last night for me was the performance of our youngsters. Mulhall is the brightest talent I've seen in years, Ebbe and Josh were all superb! Our 3 goal scorers we all under the age of 20! The future is very bright.

The negative from last night was cousins in game tactics again. We were cruising at 3-0 but TC decides to take a striker off and put Gillespie on and our back 4 dropped onto the penalty spot and invited pressure and as a result harps scored and could have actually ended up drawing the game if they were any good. We will not get away with this against better teams and especially agains mervue in 2 weeks as they are probably the best counter attackers in the league.

We have a special squad of players and that's why in extremely frustrated we haven't this league wrapped up by now but there's no reason we won't win our last 4 games and if that happens we just need athlone to slip up once as we have them on the final day and even if athlone do secure the title finishing 2nd could be vital!

My Finn Harps pal told me apart from the continious long balls from our keeper, de Town played some very good football but so did Harps, he said we scored at vital times, Harps missed at vital times, but if Harps had have scored he thought they would have won as De Towns confidence would have gone, it looked like Harps marked no 24 very tightly, our no 2 played centre half and was excellent, as was no 9, I think he is a pretty good judge of what he is watching so I'll take it at face value until I'm told otherwise

Harps missed a great chance to go 1-1 and that would have change the game but apart from that we dominated. Sully missed 2 one on ones, Shaw missed a sitter, their keeper made a top save we honestly could have scored 7 or 8. We defended poorly but as it wasnt our normal back 4 we did well to only concede 1 we were deserved winners. Havo was very good at cente back.

From what i saw of it the future is bright for us if you leave out DOB out of it. Mulhall, Ebbe and Josh were superb esp mulhall for our third goal.. he has fantastic hunger and if he keeps up this progress he will go to the bigger clubs.. I was harsh on Ebbe a few weeks ago but I can see why he was signed.. pity the crowd was poor.. was there a attendance announced at it?

I wasn't but I read 2 match reports plus you guys reported they should have scored at least twice not to mention my pal from Donegal who still cant believe the sitters they missed,
sods law I miss a game and almost every thing I wanted happened, left winger taken off, Ebbe starts, Mulhall at right back, sick I missed all that, but I believe Bennion passed the ball only 3 times in the whole game, I really believe thats just not good enough if you want to win things, he is a brilliant shot stopper but whats with all the long balls, passes make chances chances make goals goals usually win games

Matt Slater from the BBC shared rules of "lower league moneyball" last year- one of which was never have your keeper throw it out.

The vast majority of goals in lower league football do not come from passing movements.

His kicking was poor but the need to play long balls wasn't his fault. None of the back 4 or the midfield dropped in or showed for the ball from goalkicks so that's clearly the way the team is set up by the manager.

Jesus you are all very touchy. S**t like this wouldn't happen in any other world league. Don't care if there's GAA fixtures or not.

For the record, we had a bus ready to go. 9 people were all that was booked onto it. It had to be cancelled at the last minute.

I couldn't be there, as Acornvilla put it..pregnancy. I'm on call, the girlfriend is about to give birth, otherwise, I would have been there as I've only missed a handful of away matches this season.

I ended up getting the team list from one of the Harps players.

I've great time for Longford Town FC as a whole. One of my more favourite clubs in the League, but GAA or not, slump in form or not, all that went on reportedly at the Harps game really stops me asking the question, "why is the town not out supporting a club pushing for promotion?".
