So, who's driving the oldest car at the moment? Has to be your daily driver, i.e. the car on your main insurance policy.

I've a '96 Volvo 850R, but given the economy I'm sure I'll be beaten within minutes. :)

The oldest car I ever owned was a 96 Peugeot 106. Replaced by a 97 Ford Escort.
Owned the 106 in 2005.

It had 113 when I bought it, I think I've put about 4 or 5 on it but I'd have to look to be sure. It was in pretty good shape when I bought it however it had sat idle and unloved for a good while and it's needed some TLC -- I got a blowout on the M7 on the way home, for example, and when I looked in the boot the spare was forked. Don't get me started on the AA recovery...

I'm repairing / replacing bits and pieces myself as I go to get it back to factory, and my local indie gets it every few weeks with a bootful of parts I source myself. :) On its last junket it had a PCV kit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankcase_ventilation_system#Positive_crankcase_ve ntilation_.28PCV.29) and a set of silicone turbo hoses fitted, and it's where it should be now on the power front, wasn't boosting properly before.

I'm not happy with the brakes now though, so I'll be getting a set of larger disks for it, and police pads (the cops used to run these in the UK). The suspension will need to be done at some stage. Plus I have to get the wheels refurbished, it needs a little paint here and there, it never ends... :)

Still though, it cost 2.5k, I've spent about a grand and it goes like poo off a stick, so I'm not complaining. It's also nearly half the cost of the 7 series it replaced in motor tax!

This is my oldest so far, although I'm aiming to buy a fifties Volvo Amazon in a few years, when I can afford storage. Last car I had was '00, so 12 years old at the time. The earliest car I had was my first, a mid-nineties 525i called Otto. Think it was a '94. Great car.

They are. My old man retired his Carina E just a couple of years ago, and even then it was only because he moved to northern Sweden and it wasn't built for that climate. Think it had around 300k on it. Before that he had a string of them going back decades, new every 2-3 years as he was his own salesman.

I drove an Aygo 3 years ago on holiday, twas great fun, put the Fiat 500 I had 2 years ago to shame. And the mother has a Yaris, manky car but just goes and goes.

I've a 1987 Mercedes 190. Got it in Austria in 2004 and it's going great! It's an automatic, which is a bit of a pain, but it is used by a friend of mine who averages 500km a week in it. One scary thing is it's rear wheel drive, not good in an automatic in the snow!

I tend to like big Mercs over small ones, but the 190 is a definite exception. I'd swap one of these for a testicle any day of the week.

I don't think so tbh. There was probably a few of them, those Carinas went forever. I see them on the N25 regularly still.

Oh I know they did. Always wanted one. Still do. Only ever see one every couple of years around Dublin.

The only reason it twigged with me is that the guy in the aticle used to change his car every couple of years as he was in sales and then they allowed him to keep the Carina E on retirement.

He was self-employed, so he wouldn't be doing himself a huge favour if that were him. :-)
