Barry Town RIP

Back in the Nineties, almost immediately after the foundation of the League of Wales, Barry Town became the dominant force, hoovering up titles on an annual basis, and while European success eluded them for the most part, they did famously beat Porto 1-0 (albeit the Iberians were 8-0 up from the first leg). In a similar manner to Shelbourne, they reached too high, ran out of cash and found themselves in the First Division, but unlike the Tolka side, Barry never returned to the top-flight. Now however, the chairman has closed the club (http://www.wsc.co.uk/wsc-daily/1163-june-2013/9886-petition-to-reinstate-barry-town-to-division-one) after falling out with the Supporters' Club and the FAW has refused to admit a fan-owned new entity.

Used to love managing them when I was a 10 year old on Championship manager, my name being Barry and all, I found it hilarious, that and Bari in Italy, clutching at straws a bit but it was good times..

Something like that would never happen in the League of Ireland. An ego-maniac taking over the running of the football club - crazy promises followed by slashing of budgets - alienating supporters and local businesses and then the FAI not accepting an application to the league from a supporters formed team.
