Goals from McNally, Anto Murphy and Martin. I missed the first ten mins (thanks to the 17 Bus!) but it seemed a fairly academic (no pun intended) job for UCD. Galway put up a slightly stiffer resistance than Athlone two weeks ago, and like they did against us, hit the bar in the first half, and indeed went on to lose the game by the same result as Athlone. UCD are in a very comfortable position now. With UCD having Bray and Finn Harps out fo the way for the rest of the season and both these sides having to play each other and Kildare County promotion is looking very strong now. I'm sure Stu will post a proper match report later.

UCD went four points clear at the top of the First Division table after an uninspired victory over Galway. Maybe it was the wind which detracted from the game, but UCD won't be complaining after increasing their tally to 33 goals scored in jsut 13 home league games.
There was just one change from the team which beat Harps in Ballybofey at the weekend - slightly surprisingly, Anto "Robin" Murphy came in to replace Gary Dicker. Early on, it made no odds, as the game was scrappy at best, with the first real chance being a spectacular, if ineffective, scissors kick from David O'Dowd which Darren Quigley in the UCD goal held comfortably. Galway came much closer to scoring from a free-kick on the right touchline, which was headed against the bar with Quigley beaten. For UCD, the best chance was another potential penalty, when Anto Murphy seemed to be clattered in the Galway area, and required a couple of minutes' treatment before getting up.
As the first half drew to a close, UCD finally produced an opening, and indeed took the lead from it. Colin Fortune was booked for a rash foul on Alan McNally as he brought the ball out from defence, and Galway repeated the transgression straight from that free, giving UCD a free on the left side. This was swung in, and met with the head of Alan McNally, who was able to nod home to an empty net for a rather soft tenth league goal for the club.
The second half again failed to inspire, though UCD gradually got on top, and, after Seán Finn had gone only inches wide with a trademark long drive, UCD extended their lead with 13 minutes to go. There was a touch of good fortune about it - Anto Murphy picked the ball up in midfield, rode one tackle, got a rebound off a second and ran on to his own through ball - with Philly Hughes offside but not interfering - to round the keeper and drill home his first UCD goal in only his second game.
Four minutes later and it was all over - another cross from the left being headed home by Robbie Martin this time. There was time for Gary Anto Murphy to go down injured again and Mick Quirke to accidentally drive the ball against his head, but that was as exciting as things got, and even that (correctly) didn't warrant a booking in the ref's view.

It's good to finally string two home wins back to back over the Tribesmen.
Historically our record against Galway United has been disappointing from a Student perspective. To answer Lims question young Mr Gough is still a GUFC player.Comment

Alan the scumbag Gough is a Galway United Goalkeeper who earlier on in the season took it upon himself to abuse a boy of no more than six years of age for not returning a ball to him in the dying stages of a game galway were winning three nil! you'd think hed know better by now the tosspot must be hangin around the league of Ireland for the last 25 yearsComment
