Bit of blatant self promotion here but why not...

Most of you lot will have seen or heard of the photos I've been taking intermittently at various football grounds the last year or so, mostly of our very own CC Stadium, as well as Jackman Park and Thomond after Limerick moved home.. Well, the 2013 LSAD Degree show is upon us, and I'm about to graduate finally! I decided that the photos I took a couple of months ago at our lovely ground will form the basis of my show, I hung it all yesterday actually, and the show itself opens Saturday the 1st of June in Limerick and will run until the 8th..

If you haven't seen any of this stuff before feel free to follow this link (http://www.behance.net/barrymasterson) and have a look see.. I'll be uploading some recent stuff I shot at Thomond within the next day or two, but there's enough work to see what I'm about. My show is entirely photographs of our ground as well as another local pitch in Longford printed on Dibond (a shiny metal for those who haven't ever heard of it)..

Our other topic about the low attendances we still suffer from was one of the main catalysts behind the stuff I've been making for the last year or so, I'm trying to raise the profile of our league and club, heres a bit of a c/p from my artist statement explaining what its all about..

My practice explores the sporting world, and in particular the Irish domestic footballing scene, as this is one of my keenest interests. Most Irish "fans" are preoccupied with English and other foreign brands of football while neglecting their own, something I have always struggled to understand, this is the starting point for my entire project. I hope to put the viewer into the psyche of the supporter. To create imagery which makes a commentary on issues surrounding the sport. Including problems such as lack of support, the lack of development and infrastructure the game suffers from in Ireland, as well as mismanagement from the powers that be. I find it interesting to look at issues which sport can mirror within wider contemporary culture, such as lust for money/power, problems with class as well as fanaticism and violence This series of photographs were taken at two football grounds close to where I grew up. One in particular being the home of Longford town FC, a club in the second tier of Irish senior football. These pieces in particular serves to highlight the plight that every club in Ireland faces, this being a lack of support, but also hinting at some other wider issues which trouble the sport globally. I hope this work will invite the viewer to draw their own conclusions as to each pieces meaning and engage with something which is not necessarily highly publicised in the media today.

So yeah I just wanted to give it a bit of an auld mention and publicity.. If anyone might be near Limerick at any stage that week feel free to pop in to see the show, the stuffs all for sale too of course :P

I'll put some pictures up here after the shows been on too for anyone who may be interested, anyway if you've read all that I commend you.
There is a FB page (https://www.facebook.com/LsadGraduateShowODYSSEY2013) for the exhibition too, but not too much information up yet, these things actually get quite a lot of press attention and hopefully my work will get a review or two, I'm spreading the gospel of our great league into new circles! So I'd appreciate it if people have a look at my work, maybe mention it to a friend if you think they might be interested or around to see the show, link my work around the internet etc. If not well then I hope you enjoyed reading my ramble..

Some lad who has his own Italian football blog made a little article about some of the photos I made in the CCS, nothing I haven't said on here already but sure I thought I'd link it! It's nice to be noticed and all that. http://www.forza27.com/cc-stadium-photography/

In other news, on the off chance that any of you want any of this stuff I do have them for sale on Etsy. I'll leave a link for it here but I'll assume that it may be threading lightly with the rules of advertising and whatnot, so if it's not allowed to be here I won't hate the mods for editing this paragraph out :) http://www.etsy.com/shop/EtcherSketcher Obviously anyone who is near Longford or Limerick could negate all cost of postage and packaging, but anyway yeah, I'm trying to make a go of this art lark, so there's step 1.
