As expected, a mis-match in Ferrycarrig tonight as the Youths made eight changes from the team which started against Waterford and paid the price. With only Joey, Deano and Gary retained, Youths started with Brandon, Iain, Gary, Brian, Corkey, Clarkey, Caolan, Joey, Deano and with two little lads, Glen and Daryl up front. Cork looked quicker round the pitch and, after eight, first chance fell to Danny Furlong who shot straight at Brandon. With twenty gone, Daryl got a yellow for a dive as he pushed the ball past Barnes in the Cork goal. With 23 gone, Kevin Murray walked off for Cork and was substituted by Colin Healy. Glen then got a yellow for a tackle at the corner of the box and the Cork free was put away by Ian Turner although Brandon got a hand to it. Caolan then got a yellow for a tackle from a card-happy McKell. With ten to go, best goal for Cork when a ball was cleared by the Youths outside their box to Duggan who volleyed it inside the right-hand post with Brandon having no chance for 2-0 to Cork.

With five to go in the half, Clarkey broke free down the left and, with only Barnes to beat, his low shot was knocked away by the Cork keeper's legs to keep the score at 2-0. Last action of the half was a yellow for Duggan for a tackle. Youths needed to score first in the second half and had a chance after five when Glen had a shot from an angle but Barnes was able to keep it out. After nine, Danny was put through and he rounded Brandon to knock the ball into the empty net for 3-0 to Cork. On 18, Cork broke free down the right and was squared with Brandon advancing to give Danny a simple finish for 4-0. Danny seemed to get a kick when scoring this one as he limped off a few minutes later.

Remainder of the game was uneventful with the only positive for the Youths being the appearance of Graham Delaney as a sub for the Youths since, I think, the pre-season friendlies. Graham seems to have a good touch up front and might do a job there for the Youths if he can get a few appearances under his belt. Cork had a couple of more half-chances before the end but squandered them for 4-0 to Cork at full-time. Best for Wexford were the regular starters of Gary, Joey and especially Brian, while Deano did some damage down Cork's left. However, the main weakness of Wexford was loss of the ball while passing out of their own third. Couldn't really judge Cork on the night but Stephen Kenny looked useful. 4-0 to Cork at full-time with about 220 in attendance.
