Police in Britain are investigating an attack on the home of Irish international and Manchester United captain Roy Keane.

A cache of industrial fireworks was set alight outside the property in Hale on Sunday morning.

The crate containing the fireworks was also daubed with racist graffiti.

The Corkman is believed to have been inside with his pregnant wife and four children at the time of the incident.

No matter what you might think of him it's a pretty low thing to do to attack a family home.

from the BBC...

A crate of industrial fireworks is thought to have been set off near the £1.4m home of Manchester United captain Roy Keane.
Police are investigating the attack on the Irish Republic star's home on Bank Hall Lane, Hale, at 0715 BST on Sunday.

A spokesman said the powerful rockets were ignited from a crate daubed with an obscene anti-Irish message.

Officers were called to the property by a neighbour and say enquiries into the incident are continuing.

Flames had ignited after the fireworks were set off but had already gone out when firefighters arrived at the scene.

It is not known if Keane, 33, his wife Theresa, also 33, or their four children were at home at the time.

I was listening to sky news last night, the part werethey review the next mornings papers and your one who was doing it was bang out of order ! she said, Keane does not mind being firebrand on the pitch with his tackling but cant take it off the pitch. Now in fairness being a tough man on the pitch is slightly different than having your home attacked ! She also made light of the racist graffiti aswell.

I thought keane lived in a right toff area, all these scumbags must be going out of their way to get at him.

Your man with the bust 20 pound chain must have spent a lot more than that on all those fireworks.

That's a standard sized family in Cork.
There's more in my family.

It takes a big man to attack a family home!

If it had been a black player involved and there were racist graffitti daubed on the explosives, then the media would have reacted differently, you can be assured.
But because Roy's a passionate character who plays a hard game, the British press will have the "outrage" dial turned down, thinking it's somehow par for the course. It isn't. It's an apalling thing to do to anyone.

Er...Hate to contradict myself so soon, :o but I've just read a workmates copy of the Sun, and the coverage is fairly sympathetic, describing the "Terrifying" attack on Roy and his "Heavily pregnant" wife. Quite nice to be proved wrong sometimes.

It is a right toff area, but as always in England it's not that far from a fairly rough estate(s).

These fookers better hope that they don't get found out by certain elements of the United support - Matthew Simmons is still "living in fear" apparently.

That's not exclusive to England.
Sure didn't they stick Limerick and it's "charming" residents right next to Cork :D
