That's what you get for being friendly gastric.
The fourth paragraph was directed towards Dion Fanning, not gastric.

TOWK, you will love this article and will make you love Stephen Quinn even more!
http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/european-championships/stephen-quinn-honoured-parents-by-playing-in-tbilisi-30584703.html
However, even he approves of English players playing for us.
http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/european-championships/irelands-stephen-quinn-ill-apologise-to-jack-grealish-30584705.html
Bit of an indictment of Quinn that he wasn't even aware that Grealish is part of our under-21 set-up and is one of the best players there. At least he would have played with/against Brady and Hendrick at Championship level. That might have saved him a blush when he entered the squad himself.
EDIT: He comes across so well in the first article. Determined man. Great to see him getting the chances under O'Neill.

"I have played in some big games in the past. I have got play-off finals under my belt, an FA Cup final, Premier League games, they are all big games but this has probably been my biggest personal level, for my family. Because I love playing for my country, it is the most important thing to me. People pull out of squads or whatever, but this is the pinnacle of your career so yes, it is emotional now. I am just glad we got the win and I just want to keep performing."
Before hearing the team, he had also been present for a team meeting with O'Neill delivering the address he had waited nearly 10 months to give.
"It was a powerful meeting to be honest with you. It was quiet, he is softly spoken, but when he talks you listen, because you need to, because he is softly spoken. The hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Him and Roy have been waiting for this for nine months. We had meetings every day about Georgia. He is a really intelligent manager, really, really intelligent, and to have Roy Keane in there as well, they have so much experience. His talk before we got on the coach was inspiring and I think it inspired everybody. That is why we have a really tight squad unit here now after nine months."

Jeez, imagine how cr@p that'd have played without the rallying call.
Seriously, though, that's good to hear. I want to know we have a tight group of hungry players desperate to win every game, and I want to hear that O'Neill legendary motivation skills are in action.

Understandable one, down to the last few mins, Hull pushing forward for the equaliser,
Quinn was the last defender and he was going to be beaten by the bounce leaving a 1 on 1 for Leicester,
so he did a sneaky hand-ball but didn't get away with it. Could have been game over if he didn't so
he had to really. At least he kept Hull in the game for the last minute, they still lost though, Hull a bit
unlucky they had a few chances in the second half.

Nope not of those work.
I could re upload it to youtube but I fear I might get done for copyright.
Anyhow, I used to be able to capture whatever was displayed on the screen using
VLC player, however after the last upgrade that no longer works, which really p*ssed
me off. Had I know I would not have done the upgrade.
I have tried older versions but none of them seem to work either. :(
Anyway nice header, well take goal, however they are big danger of relegation.

I think he's good enough. I also think he should be very close to our starting XI. We complain about a lack of dynamism in midfield and players not showing for the ball. Quinn does a lot of what we need.

He's probably not that far off, depending on circumstances. He's very willing and he's probably the most out-and-out athletic midfielder we've had since Keith Andrews, but he wouldn't be as good on the ball as some of the others options kicking around.

Yeah, but for a team that struggles to find space between defensive lines a limited give and go type player like Quinn can be the difference.

Wouldn't have said he's an out and out athlete. I think he's more technically skilled than most of our midfielders but not athletic in the Andrews/Meyler/Hendrick sense.

Reports that one Premier League club and several Championship clubs are interested in him. Consensus is that he would only be guaranteed regular football in the Championship. He's 29 and this is potentially his last big contract so you can't begrudge him if he takes an offer from a Championship team. Reading have a good manager and will always be in or around the playoffs so it wouldn't be the worst move. Good luck to him. I hope he gets a move to a Premier League team and silences the doubters who don't think he can be anything but a squad player. It seems that Hull fans think he should only be a squad player at PL level yet whenever he does start they rave about his performances more often than not. Livermore, Huddlestone and Ramirez have all driven Hull fans mad with their inconsistency but Quinny always has a good attitude and is at least as consistent if not as naturally talented.

Depends how you define it, but he's quicker and covers more ground and presses harder, with more intensity, than Meyler/Hendrick imo.
Hope Reading works out for him - they'll get a good player for sure.

I don't think an EPL move would necessarily make him a better player. He is what he is and on my opinion should be very close to starting for us. I think he brings more presence and is more accretive than McCarthy and Hendrick.
Accretive: The process of accretion, which is the growth or increase by gradual addition, in finance and general nomenclature. An acquisition is considered accretive if it adds to earnings per share.

Wherever he ends up going, we might need his accretion in the forthcoming games so hopefully he's given a responsible first team role to keep him in top shape.

I agree with the first bit, he's had his bit of top level football now which will stand to him, so I suppose the most important thing is regular football. I don't think he should be in direct competition with Hendrick for us really and I wouldn't consider him for the role Hendrick played against Scotland. I think McCarthy is a far superior footballer than Quinn, if I was dropping somebody for him it would be Whelan who is, am, what's the opposite of accretive? :p Not entirely serious but I actually like that proposition, legs and energy over discipline and positional awareness, not that McCarthy falters in the latter. It could be a decent partnership.
I think Quinn is one of those players that's easy to appreciate, he always appears busy and makes himself available for little one-twos and that. With McCarthy and indeed Whelan, sometimes their contribution is less obvious. McCarthy has been disappointing in some aspects, no point in saying otherwise, but I still think he'd be every bit a big a loss to the starting XI as Whelan would be. He's probably a victim of our own expectation levels to some degree also, whereas it seems to me like Whelan is benefiting from the exact opposite in recent times, certainly on here.
McCarthy's potential and performances for Everton makes him undroppable for me, certainly in the short-term. His worst performances for us aren't really much different to what Whelan has been offering up for seven years or so. Whelan has peaked while there's still a strong hope that McCarthy will burst into life and become exactly what we need.

Could be a financial thing too. Although he played a bit of Premier League and at the Euros for Ireland I doubt he ever got a "big money" contract that would see him set for life. It was mentioned last week that his brother Keith had significant financial issues that led to him becoming involved in the Noonan thing, hopefully Stephen has managed his money better than that.

There's a world of difference, financially, between Keith Quinn's five years in the LOI and Stephen's (and even Alan's). Stephen has had four years in the Premier league and eight in the Championship. Along with a season in League one when Sheffield United after they were relegated, and a free transfer to Reading. Over his 20 year career, I reckon he should have earned at least five million pounds.

You're absolutely right that there will be a difference. Not sure he'll have earned €5m but obviously don't know for certain. But the stats on the numbers of players who play at that level and end up flat broke down the line are staggering. Gambling, drugs, bad investments etc.

Your maths are right, other than his take-home would have been less than half of that due to taxation. He'd have to have been paid more than 10m to bring in 5m, if you know what I mean. I doubt he earned that much spending most of his career in the Championship and League 1.

True, I was thinking 5m gross. I figured he spent a few years in the Premier league, a few in League one and two, but most in the Championship, earning less than the average in his early years, but more once he was established. The average Championship salary at the midpoint of his career was roughly 250k. So I assumed that he earned that on average and multiplied by 20. I think it's possible I lowballed a bit and that he earned a couple of million more, though.
