Good place to start is with a list of where the Irish cyclist have done: http://www.stickybottle.com/latest-news/irish-rider-transfers-and-team-news-whos-on-the-move-at-home-and-abroad-2/

Also- Lance on Oprah, how vomit inducing is that going to be?

Is a hopefully-injury-free 2013 expected to be a big year for Deignan after a disappointing 2012?

Deignan was hoping to relaunch his career in 2012 with his move to Unitedhealthcare, and while that did not go according to plan the US Pro Continental outfit has retained confidence in him, with the Donegal man to line out for them again in 2013. Having taken a Vuelta stage win and top ten overall, Deignan has results in his palmares that Nicolas Roche and Dan Martin don’t to date, a fact that underlines his natural ability. A bit like Sam Bennett, a good run of problem-free form for Deignan could bring very spectacular results.

He's actually my cousin but I know very little about cycling and haven't spoken to him in quite a while.

AS vomit-inducing as this per chance?

Surprised sticky bottle forgot Dan Martin's Vuelta stage win.

As for Deignan himself, very hard to say. He's had one injury free season so far, and he was brilliant for it. But the likelihood of him being injury free?

Well no one ever gets a hard time on Oprah. It isn't that type of show

I read (can't recall where) that the Armstrong interview will be conducted on Monday.

Mr A
11/01/2013, 12:40 PM
Actually, it turns out the transcript of the interview is already available: http://blogs.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/joehildebrand/index.php/dailytelegraph/comments/exclusive_armstrong_even_more_innocent_than_previo usly_thought/

The interview may not be the whitewash we all expected- Tweeted by David Walsh:

Oprah Winfrey is trying to get up to speed on LA. Her producer Jenna Kostelnik has spoken with Kathy LeMond, Betsy Andreu and yours truly.

And furthermore:

At 6pm today I will post something on this twitter page that will amuse and be of interest to many. And yes it does relate to you-know-who.

The thick plottens.

I am failing to understand how he can avoid perjury by coming clean - anyone care to shed some light on that? Isn't he certain to do some jail time now that he has seemingly confessed ?

No disrespect to Deignan, who I hope stays injury free enough to fulfil his potential (and United Healthcare should get good wildcard invites this year), but Dan has much better palmares - grand tour stage win, world tour stage race win (and podium), monument podium, monument top 5 amongst others.

Cut a deal with the feds/ USADA, and settle the other cases.

Mr A
15/01/2013, 9:29 AM
I read that piece as taking the stage win and top ten together- hence it's something Roche or Martin haven't managed.

On the perjury question- it seems that the statute of limitations has passed on that so Armstrong may be covered on that. It's mentioned in this piece which is quite good: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2013/jan/15/lance-armstrong-cost-benefit-analysis-confession

The most nervous people currently are probably at the UCI. I have a feeling this is going to go very badly for them.

Very quiet in here. I just finished watching the first part tonight/this morning. But I had already heard clips all day from it and interviews with the other (seemingly all Irish) protagonists.
Gonna watch part-two during breakfast, but judging by the banners on SSN It seems I am liable to throw up.

"I deserve it..."; what a ****!

David Walsh and Emma O'Reilly on the late late last Friday night.

Nothing new on it - but Walsh did say he was in discussions with Armstrong's legal team regarding an interview ( as a part of the legal settelment ) which i think would be interesting to say the least!

Understatement of the year. :)

Eh, Fuentes in court today. This is gonna be whopper. I'm looking at you Barcelona...
Though there'll be nothing in the trial to implicate any other sports teams.
The aftermath should be interesting.

Fantastic news, looking forward to this already. Unfortunately though with the stages seeming to be Belfast-Belfast x2 and Armagh-Dublin it's hard to see any of them suiting Roche or Martin. But sure maybe we'll have more candidates by then.

Meanwhile Martin Irvine is into the Gold medal race at the track world championships. Sweet.

I cannot wait for this.

I'll never forget the Tour in 1998. Watching the stage live on TV then cycling up the Kylemore Road to the Naas Road. Unreal experience to see the cyclists zoom down Walkinstown Avenue to turn the corner onto the Naas Road and then into town. ANd then cycling back to teh house to watch the finish of the stage. Incredible.

Around the outskirts to Tallaght, up over the Sally Gap, left turn and up over Djouce and then back into Dublin. :)

Watching on TV as I did every summer before I could work never did it justice until I saw it in the flesh.

Got the bus into the City (Cork), waited by a barrier for about 3 odd hours, and it took about 15 drug fueled seconds for the field to pass by. One of the biggest waste of times in my sporting life experience! Was great for the country at the time though, and I've loved riding my bike before and after, so in a way, I'm kinda glad I saw it.

Would be great if one of the étapes ( what's the Italian for étape ? ) was in Ireland as well - give us all a go!

In Italy Google tells me they are known as "Gran Fondo's" and although there doesn't seem to be one during the Giro - there is a yearly Gran Fondo Milan-SanRemo coming in at a mere 294kms should you have the legs for it!

Catalunya under way. Martin contested the sprint yesterday and came in fourth. Roche was caught behind a crash and missed the front group. He's writing for the indo this week: http://www.independent.ie/sport/other-sports/nicolas-roche-i-was-suddenly-left-in-no-mans-land-in-a-little-group-of-four-29138445.html

Anyone watching this today able to get an update ?

Getting twitter updates in Spanish, and I don't speak Spanish! but from what I can decipher - Roche is at the foot of the last climb of the day 1.00 clear at the head of the stage - with Dan Martin in a group of 20 odd behind him on the road, 2 minutes clear of the peloton. Martin in line to take the leaders jersey at the moment, as Valverde, who was leading, has abandoned.

Am I right or waaay off ?

Mr A

Ironically it was Martin and his team mates that seemed to chase down Roche. Martin in the lead group now with about 2 minutes.. he could take the overall lead if he can hold but the skybots have been deployed.

Edit: @opqscyclingteam and @mrconde are very good for updates.
