he's got a sweet shot on him and delivers a good dead ball from what we've (limitedly) seen in the prem. and whatever stupid name they call the one below it these days; i remember his goal against chelsea, a real belter. i believe that whenever he's on for sunderland, which isn't a lot lately, he takes all the corners, maybe frees too. pity though he hasn't made even their bench lately.

He's talented but over weight, lazy and makes stupid mistakes. A poorer version of Gazza if you will, I'd be suprised if he made it as far as he should do with the talent he has. Rumour has it though he'll go on loan to Leeds until the transfer window where he'll sign for Everton, all just paper talk though.

shame, you might be able to sort out the first two problems (seemingly go hand in hand you'd have to say) but the latter :(

I saw thornton alot as a youth player and at tranmere....he has bundles of talent ..i would never have called him lazy as he had a great engine and covered acres of ground..he also distributed the ball very well..Ihaven't seen any of him since his injury but maybe the fact that he is in the team has brought on the other problems... amove away might be just what he needs as from what I saw of him he has alot of talent

I know someone who is best friends with Thornton. When I asked him would Thornton be picked for Ireland any time soon, he says he is lazy as hell which is the reason why he isn't being picked.

What a load of rubbish.

Thornton is nothing like Gazza. The geordie had other problems. Thornton has a lot of talent. Two years ago, I saw him play against England in the European under-19 Championships. Ireland were 2 nil down at half time, but came back to win 3-2. Thornton was immense. He ran the show. Injuries have stunted his progress. A move might be a good thing. If he is lazy, then maybe a manager like David Moyes is what he needs.

I've not denied he has talent. However he is over weight and I've seen him, he's very lazy. I've also heard from many people that his lifestyle leads alot to be desired but obviously that could just be rumours.

If he was as bad as all we would have heard about it from Don Givens. He went public on Keith Foy for being fat and unfit a couple of years ago in an attempt to save Keith's career at Forest. Keith now plays for the best team in Monaghan so he does.
