He was kept overnight in Mullingar for observation, I think he was due to get out this morning, poor lad looked like he was rightly concussed coming off. The ambulance folk were a bit slow off the mark alright!

I could'nt understand how he was allowed go back on the pitch when it was obvious he was in trouble. He fell back when he first got to his feet. What ever about the ambulance team I am not impressed with the town physio who should have ruled out any further involvement for John immediately regardless of how much the player wished to continue. It is never worth taking a risk after a head injury and it was rediculous considering the calibre of the subs on the bench. :(
However, in his state of concussion, he set up barrett for the goal, the only real good thing he did on tues and he more than likely has no recollection!

The physio gave john a few mins to recover which is what your suppose to do, when the physio asked John a few questions, he got them right...he even knew the physio's name, when he was walk off he was ok & while waiting for the ref to call him on, the physio was still asking him questions which John was getting right. The club doc was beside the dugout & the physio consulted him & furthermore pip was ready to go on if the physio decided john was not fit. It was only few mins later that John got confused again & that’s when the physio decided to take him off. I was also taking to a few docs today, & they said the same thing, if he was answering correctly & was not confused he was ok, but about 5% of case the concussion can come back a few minutes, which is what happened.
John was kept over night in Mullingar for observation & few tests. He was given the "all clear" & let home Tuesday after Lunch. On the club doctors advice John will be rested for a week.

The procedure you outlined is the normal carried out after a head injury. This incident was different in that the player collapsed again after getting to his feet. Regardless of the wishes of the player it is better to err on the side of safety in such situations. As a matter of interest I think that in England there is a mandatory minimum period of a few weeks where players are not allowed to play after a concussion. :ball:
