Lovely shot of a packed Dalyer.

Left to right: Giles, Dempsey, Finucane?? Don't know the two on the right. Conroy possibly. I think I was at that game. Late 1960s. We lost something like 1-2 or 2-3. Those were the days when you'd almost get crushed to death as a child trying to get in to the ground. They let in as many who turned up at the stiles.

The support was mostly Dublin based and hence the favourite song was "Cockles and Mussels" which I now miss at the games. Certainly preferable to Ole Ole.

Most probably, Charlie Hurley and Shay Brennan (to the right).

Not that old but at least the photo is in grainy b&w
Ireland v Italy 1985 'friendly'. Gardai action lessened the potential for disaster, by a few crucial degrees.

The real potential for disaster at an Ireland game at Dalymount, would be any one of Mick Martin's passes across midfield.

I had always wondered around that tournment how they got a photo of Ireland-Netherlands before the World Cup started. Euro 88 passed me by.
Being 4 will do that!

Definitely the best Shamrock Roers team of all-time.

Without having Billy Dennehey in that side you're pushing to have it included in the "All-time best" pantheon though.

If it's a Dennehy you want in the team, can you do better than a Dennehy from Cork called Miah?

Was it it the IFA that didn't allow it to be an Ireland XI? Or does anyone know the background to them aspect?

Is that yours?

No, I'd never even heard of that one until you mentioned it. I presumed you were getting mixed up with the Orbis one as that had the same Hughton/Gullit picture on the front.

The Orbis collection was undoubtedly the greatest collection of anything in history. :)

Haha took me longer than it should have to get the TKO'd reference, having a slow day. The more I look at that picture it does look familiar actually. I love the way it specifies that the stickers are in colour!

I'm glad you got the ref. I chuckled to myself at how witty I was.

I was cleaning out the attic the other day and came across these two programmes. Rovers playing teams which no longer exist. The Cup Final one is interesting as it has a profile of the Rovers' players and none of the Celtic players! Slight bias there. On the back it is advertising the Czech World Cup game with the photo which started off this thread (I think). "Stand 25/-, Terrace 7/6 Ground 5/-." I can't remember what was the difference between the ground and the terrace?

Even Irish international players wore Adidas, as you can see there from the famous three stripes on their boots of choice:

And not forgetting "nearly all rugby players participating in the 5 nations tournament", of course:

Then, for those days at the beach through our scorching summer months:

Whether you played football or the harp, an Adidas bag suited the part:

Not sure why they're not working any longer as I've tagged and linked them correctly. The URLs don't appear to be showing up anything either other than a 'forbidden' message. Perhaps they've been removed by their host, balls.ie.

You can flick through the catalogue virtually instead on the link to the Adidas site or see them here: http://balls.ie/uncategorized/adidas-ireland-archive-catalogue-achill/

I think I remember having René Higuita's scorpion-kick save on one of these too, or maybe that's my imagination and it was a just a run-of-the-mill hologram of Darren Anderton dribbling during the same game:

Kelloggs had capturing the market off to a tee until health and safety got in the way. They were great collectables at the time. I have to say there was nothing like the 80's. They did the bicycle reflector's for a long time too and there wasn't a child in the country that didn't have them. Maybe I was just getting older but the 90's inserts didn't excite so much. I remember the Olympic Cards you could get too. Maybe for Barcelona 1992 or even Atlanta 1996 though I would have been near 17 them.

That Star collection from 1990. The hell I went through trying to get that as you wouldn't dare, and you wouldn't dare to this day, ask the aul lad to pick up a copy of the Star and check the album is inside. My mum of course did. A great woman altogether and I cherished that album.

My favourite album was the Euro 88 one. I can see every single page in there to this day. Anybody remember the album collection that featured all the major sports like Athletic's, Cycling, etc?. I imagine it was another Olympic's production possibly for Soeul in 1998. Again looking through the pages. I can near remember every single page of it.
