Just a quick mention on the weather. Simply the coldest game I've ever been at.

Well, you were wearing shorts, so what did you expect?

Our 4th successive Setanta semi final (a setanta cup record apparently). Hopefully it's 4th time lucky on making it to a final this year ...

Our last chance to win it I would say, no sponsor combined with declincing interest from Northern clubs probably had done for the competition without the activities of our peripatetic friends in Windsor last night.

There will be additional assistant refs behind either goal at Rovers vs Cork City next week....

Additional Assistant Referees will be introduced for the first time in domestic competition next week when two extra match officials will be involved in the Setanta Sports Cup semi-finals.

Following several years of trials by UEFA at different levels of the game, from an U19 mini-tournament in October 2008 to last summer’s Euro 2012 Finals, the International Football Association Board finally gave the green light to confederations and national associations to use Additional Assistant Referees (AAR) in their competitions by providing for them in the most recent edition of the Laws of the Game.

Following a joint proposal from the Referee Departments of the IFA and FAI, the Setanta Sports Cup Tournament Committee agreed to the introduction of Additional Assistant Referees for the semi-finals and final of this year’s competition.

Shamrock Rovers v Cork City, Tallaght Stadium, 7.30pm
Referee: Neil Doyle, Assistant Referee 1: Wayne McDonnell, Assistant Referee 2: Rhona Daly,
Additional Assistant Referee 1: Tómas Connolly, Additional Assistant Referee 2: Rob Rogers,
Fourth Official: Adriano Reale. (All FAI)

Tough one for us tonight with alot of players out.. think we will still give them a good game and would happily take a draw

Must say Setanta's coverage is very thorough. Refreshing from the usual 5 minutes analysis on RTE.

Not entirely looking forward to this as I suspect we could take a tonking... touch wood!

Super strike from Kavanagh, easy to see he's our most talented player.

A city/county the size of Cork should be getting far more support than they have been. Shocked by Sligo's loss. Had they made many changes from the weekend?

Really? Cork are really one of the best supported teams in the whole League by my viewing.

You're viewing them from fair enough away in Kenny/Letterkenny though. They look all bunched together.

Nah Nah Nah Nah

I wouldn't be shocked by our defeat. 4 changes were made but we haven't really played that well this season. The next 4 league games will tell a lot about us. Pats, Drogs, Shams and Derry. It could be a much tighter league table after those.

Bloody Herald...I nearly had a heart attack when I saw it first...I'd backed them at 7/4 the day before to win the thing outright!!

Big game tonight.. After the first leg i was confident enough but after what happened friday lets hope the players confidence hasnt been badly affected.. should be a great game and hopefully a good crowd comes out for it, sun is shining so no excuses for there not to be a good crowd.. come on city;) says in the paper today that should we get through and play sligo the final would be in galway(terryland i presume) or if its drogheda then its likely to be the RSC, duno if thats true or not but just what it said

It would be magnificent if they put the final in Drom. After all it's clearly up to league standard, so why not :)

Interesting choice of grounds. Like the idea of both to see what kind of crowd turns out

adamd164

I can't see it being a neutral ground for the final, regardless of who is there because crowds have been so poor in the competition. More likely a toss of the coin for home advantage IMO.

Why couldn't ye have done that against us?!

I assume that's Rovers through on away goals, to face Drogs unless Sligo produce something special?

Sickner for Cork. You have to feel for them. Silly, silly foul by Daryl Kavanagh. Keeper should have done better too.

Rovers v Drogs final, interesting to see where final is this year as they cant do a coin toss as united not to standard so does it mean rovers are home by default

i feel so sick.. im utterly sickened, heartbroken, disgusted, words just cant describe what happened.. its ridiculous scoring in the 87th minute why cant we just hold on i cant take it anymore, seriously how did that just happen? did it just happen? is this a nightmare? sickened

Repeat of last year in the final. Feel for Cork, but they need to sort this late goal problem out down by the Lee quickly or their season will be over fairly quick for them. Crowds will drop as well.

adamd164

Not a case of bad luck unfortunately - rash challenge for the free kick and bad handling from McNulty to leave the goal in.

The signs of a team who have no confidence they can see the game out. That's the manager's fault.

Terrific game in The Showgrounds tonight. rovers could have done it but the damage was done in the first leg when they didn't turn up. Good luck to Drogs in the final. Nice club run by nice people.

It's in Tallaght, not by default or conspiracy, was announced last year that the 2012 and 2013 finals would be in Windsor if a Irish league team involved or Tallaght if it was two LOI teams. Reason was Setanta found those two grounds the most suitable for broadcasting.

Rovers could draw their way to a clean sweep of all cup competitions, presumably most of training time is taken up with penalty shoot-out practice?
