View Full Version : Managers 'Hall of Fame' for Football Manager

Hi All,

Work is going well on the new CM game "Football Manager 2005". Currently it's in beta test mode, and the new all Ireland Cup for 2005 and the Irish league select v. National league select is implemented at both senior and U21 levels, so it's full of cool new features and looking good.

Anyway... I'm trying to implement a 'Fall of Fame' feature for League of Ireland users of the game. This would basically consist of a record of all major titles won by the managers in the game.

In order for this to work well I'll need a current hall of fame for the new 'computer managers' to be judged against.

What I need is a list of 'trophy history' of all managers that's EVER managed in the league of Ireland! (not an easy task).

Only 'Premier Division' and 'FAI Cup' wins are currently taken into account for the game so please don't post First Division wins, league cup, or Presidents Cup wins etc.

Example of what's needed:

"DOMESTIC_MANAGER_RECORD" "Pat" "Dolan" "20/09/1968" "Saint Patrick's Athletic" 2 0

"DOMESTIC_MANAGER_RECORD" "Dermot" "Keely" "08/03/1954" "Shelbourne" 1 0

"DOMESTIC_MANAGER_RECORD" "Turlough" "O'Connor" "22/07/1946" "Athlone Town" 2 0
"DOMESTIC_MANAGER_RECORD" "Turlough" "O'Connor" "22/07/1946" "Dundalk" 2 1

The above tells me that Pat Dolan won two leagues with St. Pat's but no FAI Cups, and Keely won one title but no FAI cups.

In the case of Turlough O'Connor it separates the teams he's managed to win trophies at, two titles at Athlone, and two titles at Dundalk and an FAI Cup win. This will be combined in the finished game. I'm not even sure the ingo I've posted above is accurate, but I'm sure someone will let me know. :)

Are there ANY website where all this information is found? What would be perfect would be a year by year breakdown of league winners and the manager at the time, and the same with the FAI cup.

Or can any of you wise chaps out these post up some kind of rough hall of fame, as it will give me something to work off.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Darren,

Wow - sounds like a big and complicated ask, but also sounds like a great addition to the game !

People will really only know the record of Manager's when they were at their own club. I therefore think it would be easier for you to get a list of all the League and cup winners first, and then ask everyone to fill in who the Managers were. If you PM me your e-mail address, I'll scan in and send to you a historical list of League and Cup Winners from the last FAI Year book (roughly 2000). Filling in the rest of the title winners since then won't be hard.

For the record, Derry City's successes have been as follows :

Premier League 1989 - Jim Mc Laughlin
FAI Cup 1989 - Jim McLaughlin

Premier League 1997 - Felix Healy

FAI Cup - 2002 - Kevin Mahon (NB : There were 2 cup finals/winners that year, due to change to Summer Soccer).

FAI Cup 1995 - Shamefully, I can't remember if it was Roy Coyle or not !! (blame the drink in the following 9 years...)

St. Pats hall of fame:

1990 League Brian Kerr
1996 League Brian Kerr
1998 League Pat Dolan
1999 League Liam Buckley
2002 Hmmm..."League" Pat Dolan

Beyond living memory, there were League wins in 1952, '55 and '56. Don't ask me who the manager was - e-mail the club on info@stpatsfc.com and ask them to ask Pat O'Callaghan (the current chairman's da), he's the club Stato. There are also allegations that we won the Cup in '59 and '61 but the notion of Pats ever winning the Cup is simply so far-fetched that could just be an urban myth. :o

This has a list of all the teams that won the league and FAI Cup by year.

"DOMESTIC_MANAGER_RECORD" "Eoin" "Hand" "**/**/****" "Limerick" 1 1

Limerick also won the League in 1960 and the FAI Cup in 1971 but I am not 100% sure who the managers were so I'll check it out first.

Hi All,

Thanks a lot to everyone who has posted information it's been a really big help and I've finally managed to put together 'something' of a list to start off with.

While we're at it, does anyone know the records of managers like... Dermot Keely? Damien Richardson, Pat Byrne etc? These managers have won leagues and cups with multipal clubs...

Also the 5 titles in a row Shamrock Rovers side of the 80's who was manager in that period...

Cheers lads,

I think it was Felix managing the 95 cup winning team. And since evryone else is stickin in league cup trophies, maybe we should stick in the 5 we have in the cabinet(88-89,90-91,91-92,93-94,99-00). And since others are putting down 1st Division championships put ours down for 1986. And since Harps are putting in donkey 1st Division cups, we might aswell put down the Shield....

Remember: It’s only for managers born in the Republic, so Jim McLaughlin, Felix Healy etc are not included. Also, it’s only for Premier Division wins and FAI Cups wins… and for any Euro Cups… but no Irish Manager has won one as far as I know.

Jim McLaughlin is the most successful manager in Irish football history, you have to include him!!! Between 1984 and 1989 he won 4 league titles and 3 FAI cup's!!
From a Rovers point of view, you left out John Giles (born 06.11.1940 - I checked that with google. Honestly, I didn't know it off by heart!) who won one FAI Cup (1977) but no leagues in his reign as manager of Shamrock Rovers from 1977 - 1983.
You also left out Ray Tracey (even google doesn't know when he was born), who won one league title with Rovers in 1994. He managed Rovers from 1991 - 1996.
Aside from that, you've got everyone from the 1950s onwards. We won major trophies under Coad, Thomas, Tuohy, Giles, McLaughlin, Keely and Tracey. Prior to that, Jimmy Dunne won us (I think) two FAI Cup's in the 40s. I don't know if anyone even knows who the managers were before that!
Seriously though, stick in McLaughlin. All his trophies were won in the Republic and he is widely acknowledged as the best LoI manager ever.

Lads I would say it's simply a case of the Northern Ireland researcher will be the one to include Jim McLaughlin, they surley can't not include him.

But don't panic... the lad from up North how is working on the N.Irish league will have all the details of these guys OK? No one will be left out, and all their League of Ireland records will be stored.

Keely won the Cup as Rovers manager in 87 (double) so that should read 1 1, no?

Pat Byrne won a League 92 and a Cup 93 with Shels - 1 1

If you're only counting Premier titles and FAI Cup wins,
the trophies below would be the only ones the following would have:

Theo Dunne was UCD's manager for their Cup win in 84
Tommy Jackson managed Waterford to the Cup in 80
Pat Devlin has won 2 Cups with Bray 90+99
