Bring Back Mick

The league season began for the LONDON RISSC football team with a 2-1 win v Middlesbrough in the tropics of West London @ the Civil Service Sports ground. With no referee turning up Paddy McGee volunteered to take the role and the season began.
The heat started to take it's toll early on for both sides with the Irish slightly on top for the first half. Dan Healey making his full debut at right back laid down his marker for the season with a few solid challanges, likewise Adrian Ward on the left didn't let no one pass. Jon Carey and Donie Mullin kept it tight in the middle leaving Keeper Sean O Halloran little to do in the first half. With most of the play going through the middle Tim Nagle and Karl McGee were kept busy supporting the front 2 Liam Kelly and Red Hughes, Craig Selby linked up well with Adrian Ward on the left whilst Mick Coffey playing out wide on the right continued his from from last season by giving the strikers plenty of balls to run on to and also had a couple of chances.
Boro took a 1-0 lead early in the 2nd and soon after Sean O Halloran kept the score as it was with a great 1 on 1 save. Fresh legs were brought on with Martin Breheny and Ben Parry replacing Red Hughes and Mick Coffey (not before Mick nearly left his mark on the game with a free kick 40 yds out which the keeper saw out for a corner). Both Martin and Ben came close and with Paddy McGee repalcing Criag Selby the Irish were now on top. Boro gave away a needless free kick with about 10 mins to go, Paddy McGee sent the kick in finding Liam Kelly all on his own who stooped down to head the equalizer. Both sides went close and on the 90th min Martin Breheny unleased a shot from outside the box giving the keeper no chance 2-1 to the Irish and the final whistle went soon after.
A happy Irish team left the field knowing victory had been hard fought but deserved, looking forward to the game v last seasons runners up Stoke City at our new home ground the LPA Club Sudbury Hill (opp Sudbury Hill stn beside The Rising Sun Pub) and a very cheap bar !!!
