Say what you like about the League of Ireland, but I'm proud to say that none of our clubs have ever deemed Kenny Miller or Kris Boyd worthy of million-dollar contracts.

No kidding! Aside from these star players though, the average MLS guy seems to make a whole lot more than the average LOI player. Are they just that much better? Caleb Folan got a visa no problem to play there. Is it tougher for most LOI players?

As I posted earlier Ryan Guy is earning less in the MLS than he did in the LOI. The top LOI players would earn more than $44,000 per year (thats about €34,000)

MLS clubs are limited to the amount of foreigners they can bring in. They're not going to 'waste' one of those spots on a player from the LOI. Not while they can sign quality like Kris Boyd ;)

Seems strange that Marcus Hahnemann would only be on 60k, a good keeper and surely could of got a backup spot for another season in Premiership

After using the power of Google I see he is from Seattle and previously played for the Sounders but you still think he could of gotten a bigger wage than that.

Just a little aside on the BATE Borisov wage budget (which includes all employees and bonuses) is 20million euros and the last time out they had 10 locals in the line up (one a Brazilian born boy). By comparison the Zenit wage budget (players and coaching staff) is 234million euros.

Didnt MLS have a salary cap which was then 'relaxed' for clubs to hire 1 or 2 marquee players to generate interest in the League ? (and encourage inward investment from the likes of Red Bull). I seem to recall reading an article about this when Becham signed for LA Galaxy. Obviously if a club is limited to 1 or 2 'superstars' they will be looking for well known players as much as good players (so high salary linked as much to profile as ability).
