Am I right in thinking that unless Shels or Dundalk win the FAI cup, then 4th place in the league (most likely Shamrock Rovers) are guaranteed a European spot?
This being because (I think) Derry are banned from Europe for another year, and if Pat's win it then the European spot goes to the next best placed league team and not the runners up....?

That's how it worked last year, right?
Are you sure Derry's ban isn't up?
If the ban is in place, and Derry beat Dundalk in the cup final, maybe Dundalk will qualify for the cup from the FAI cup (as highest ranked eligible team)?
If Pats win Cup, then league spots goes to highest placed teams in League that aren't pats and champions

Derry got a three yr ban from European football, this is their third year and if they win the cup, WILL be in Europe next yr
To be clear, they didn't get any ban. Clubs have to have financial records for 3 years.

Derry would get into Europe next year alright. My understanding is that Pat's need to win the cup for Shamrock Rovers to get into Europe next season.

Or finish in the top 3 in the league. Which is still very doable

Unlikely though really. You don't hold much confidence in Pat's. Why is this?

No cup runner up spot, Shels last year got nothing.
It looks like Rovers need to come third, I think if they were to jump ahead of anyone, it would be Drogheda unless an unlikely win in Inchicore happens next Tuesday.
Personally, and no disrespect to Drogheda we will have a good lineup in Europe next year if it's Sligo, Pats, Derry and Rovers.

I wouldn't be surprised if half that Drogheda team was playing for Rovers or Pats next season anyway.

Thats because they lost to a team who finished 2nd, so Sligo's cup win got them europe (rather than their 2nd place finish).
its all moot now as apparently they're fine for Europe

Don't really see much evidence to suggest that Derry will be stronger than Drogs next year? Even if Drogs weaken.

It's hard to predict what shape we will be in next year. There is a lot of debate over on our forum about whether Devine should still be in the job next season, whether if he goes, should "King Kenny" be offered the job back, and even talk that ThisCharmingMan will go drag if his missus' wins some competition. I'm feelin' nervous!

Now that Chelsea have qon the Europa League how are we set up or will it make a blind bit of difference?
I can't see how it would.

Id say Stephen Kenny will have something to say about that line-up :)
