All starts again tomorrow for Irish players at clubs outside Ireland with Patrick Cregg's St Johnstone away to Eskisehirspor of Greece, and Cillian Sheridan's CSKA Sofia away to Mura Murska Sobota of Slovenia in the Europa League
I've updated the Irish Abroad site with the latest transfers and I'll have the live blog running from tomorrow on matchday with the lineups, and all goals, red and yellow cards updated in real time, and the goals, red & yellow cards will be posted to the @irish_abroad Twitter account with the hashtags #YBIG and #FAI

I'm currently working on adding a similar live feed to Facebook but I might just only post the goals there, including everything would only start to dominate people's feeds.

Great work tets. Will be good to keep an eye on the up and coming lads in the preseason friendlies, particularly the lads at Villa who might make a breakthrough this season.

This one kind of slipped under the radar. Home Farm's link-up with Portsmouth has finally collapsed, with the English club releasing strikers Carl Walshe, who will probably return to Ireland, and Chinedu Vine who has joined Portuguese club CD Fierense. They were relegated from the top tier last season.

Darren Randolph and Derrick Williams both appear on this list of players who are eligible to play for the US but have not been capped elsewhere yet: http://www.yanks-abroad.com/content.php?mode=show&id=9243
To be fair, the author does concede it's unlikely either player will change allegiance

Friend of mine is a big Middlesbrough fan, and he posted a link on facebook to a goal scored by their striker Luke Williams against Falkirk today.
The name sounded kinda familiar and it turns out he has played for Ireland at U16 level, in the same team as Sean McGinty, Daniel Devine, and Anthony Forde among others: http://www.fai.ie/fai/press-office/archive/4085.html
Unfortunately,he later changed allegiances to England, and is currently in their U19 setup
He gave this interview last year to the Gazette: http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/boro-fc/boro-fc-news/2010/06/08/luke-williams-sets-out-his-boro-ambitions-84229-26609507/

He added: “I qualify to play for Ireland as my nan is Irish so I played for Ireland at under-16 level and went to training camps with them.

“But it was always England I was going to choose if I had the choice.”

Barry Corr's got another year at Southend despite missing all last season injured, but is now missing pre season with a strain. His comment on the link is revealing, basically a season out at his level usually means being released.

Jonathan Walters headed the opener in Stoke's 2-1 defeat at The Colombus Crew last night.

Ciaran Clark also headed for Villa in their 2-2 draw at Portland Timbers. It went to a shoot out and Samir Carruthers took the winning kick.

I've set up a facebook page that will be updated automatically with all goals as they go in. Click Like here: https://www.facebook.com/irishfootballstatisics?ref=hl
I did consider posting the bookings and red cards to facebook, as in the twitter feed, but that would just flood your newsfeed on matchday.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Junior for helping me test out the facebook page over the last few weeks

Norwich are showing interest in Mark Bunn from Blackburn which would be great news for us as if he got first team football, particularly with Shay retiring. Rumours also circulating regarding Stephen Quinn joining either Blackpool or Charlton.

When did Bunn become irish?

He's never represented us or intimated he has Irish roots or any desire to play for us, as far as I can tell.

Scannell starts for Huddersfield with Lee and Gerrard on the bench. Mason on the bench for Cardiff, no McPhail.

In relation to Mark Bunn, you got me wondering why I believed he was eligible for us. I actually picked it up on here,on this thread, from a few years ago! In regards to your comment Charlie, about Bunn not intimating that he has Irish roots, he wouldn't be the first who have suddenly found they can play for us!

I reckon he is a solid keeper from the occasions I have seen him, his biggest problem has been the fact he has been a bench warmer for a hell of a long time when not on loan. He could become Norwich's No.1 and as we really have a weakness now in that area, he could compete with Westwood who may be a bench warmer himself.

Just some comments from the weekend action. Good to see David Meyler get a run, hopefully he can force his way back into the team. Owen Garvan got a brace, maybe he will live up to his early promise ( probably not). Richard Keogh and Jeff Kendrick played for Derby in their draw while Sean Murray started for Watford and was replaced by Connor Smith.

Paddy Kenny kept a clean sheet for Leeds in the same game. Leeds also started Aidy White and Paul Green. Some of you may be pleased to hear Green went off injured before half time.

I was surprised Blackburn didn't hold on to him last year in light of their defensive woes, starting the season with only one fit centre half who was younger than Gunning. Be interesting to see if he can make it back to the PL.

Not a very honorable thing to say, is it?

As much as I think Paul Green is over his head at international level, and I'm sure many on here do, I don't any of us would like to see him injured. The lad declared for Ireland - give him credit. And let's wish him a speedy recovery - I'm sure he has a wife and kids to support.

If (like me) you've been bemoaning the demise of the Guardian's chalkboards, squawka.com is a new site offering a similar service.
Player stats are updated live in play (hence my mention of Gibson's previous corners in his thread) and are fairly comprehensive.
You can see the stats for the Everton - United game here: http://epl.squawka.com/matches/english-barclays-premier-league/20-08-2012/everton-vs-manchester-united
It covers Premier League, Serie A, Primera Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

There's an archive section with Euro 2012 stats, e.g. Ireland had 69% pass completion, so approximately three out of every ten went astray.

Conor Henderson made a return for Arsenal's under 21's in the first game of their season. Beat Bolton 3-1 and scored two.
First was a free kick from the edge of the area, second a penalty.

From the looks of it, they look like a very good team. Good to see he is in control of set pieces and hopefully he'll be back in the first team squads come League Cup time

My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek Mark and maybe poking a stick at a certain animosity toward Green among a few on here. I added info about a championship match where only the appearance and performance of Wolves Irish players was mentioned. This despite three Irish including two full internationals starting for Leeds United. Even if I wasn't Irish and obviously an Ireland supporter I'm also a Leeds supporter who reckons Paul Green is an excellent championship midfielder so I take no pleasure in seeing him injured (and almost certainly out of the Kazakstan game.)

Two goals for Swindon's James Collins in the first half away to Stoke. Could have had a hat trick right after according to the BBC reports.

It's a second goal for Swindon as James Collins heads in Raffaele De Vita's cross. Stoke are staring down the barrel of a giant killing. Collins almost has a hat-trick soon after as his shot is cleared off the line.

I know it's only the early round of a not-so-important cup with some teams giving their second team a run out but all in all a very positive night, on an player level, for Irish football.
10 to 15 goals and assists for Irish players and some of the younger players getting first team experience and not doing too bad for themselves.
