RTÉ ad on the front page of the Sunday Times Sports section today self-congratulating themselves about beating TV3 on the recent CL match. "Another great victory for"...wait for it!..."advertisers on RTÉ"!

I'm writing an article for Soccernet.com about Shels and Irish football in Europe, and could really do with knowing how many watched the Deportivo and United games.

RTE can't show the 2nd leg as there were too many resources dedicated at the weekend to vital GAA matches and the olympics.

1) 2 live Camoige matches on saturday

2) The GAA run a competition for their 4 worst counties to give them a chance to play at Croke Park - Clare met Sligo in the gaelic - i.e. 2 totally mickey mouse gaelic counties (Clare are a top hurling team but not gaelic). RTE still choose to show it live. Tune in next week for extended live coverage and analysis of Kerry v Leitrim in hurling better not offend anyone in Croke Park and show more domestic football after the viewing figures last time.

Meanwhile Aertel had Drogheda drawing 1-1 with Pats when they were leading 2-0.

RTE will have to cancel all champions league coverage if Shels make it through as they won't be allowed to show any foreign teams (even Celtic :) ) if Shels are playing in the group stages. They might show highlights of the final if Shels make it. :)

What difference does that make? Presumably Spanish TV will have cameras there so they just need to transfer the fee over to ireland?

I was being sarcastic - the vital GAA matches included 2 camoige games and a mickey mouse gaa game between the 3rd and 4th worst gaelic teams.

It actually doesn't appear to be on any satellite spanish TV station from what I can determine so not even available in the pubs

Might depend on how the game gores but would be good bet that most fo the people who watched the 1st leg woudl also watch 2nd leg...

RTÉ will provide live exclusive coverage of the second leg of Shelbourne's Champions League clash with Deportivo La Coruna, the station announced this morning.

Shelbourne are looking to become the first Irish team to make it through to the Champions League proper after holding Deportivo to a draw a fortnight ago.

Shels now face the Champions League regulars in Spain for the return leg tomorrow night in a bid to make it through to the prestigious group stage of the Champions League.

Coverage begins on RTÉ Network 2 at 7.55pm.

The much maligned Rose of Tralee had huge viewing figures if i remember last year.

Would have been better if RTE could have decided what they doing last week so Deportivo game would at least be in tv listing at the weekend.

I reckon RTE must be shtting themselves at the thought of $h€££$ qualifying. Imagine the scenario, Man U playing on the same night as the Irish champions, how would MUTV - sorry, Network 2 - cope ?
