Friendly u19 Galway United 1 Sligo Rovers 3
Thanks to Dunmore town AFC for the excellent facilities and food afterwards

Gavin Dykes and Ciaran Kelly (the goalie that saves all the penalties) were hugely encouraging to get Galway United back ASAP into the League of Ireland, We appreciate their kind words of support

Well done all the families , parents and supporters who turned up and thanks to Sligo Rovers

Galway United supporters trust activities this weekend

begin tomorrow morning with the stand on shop street, Lotto, Maroon Army and u19 season tickets will be available.

Maree Oranmore are the guest Club at Uniteds home fixture later that evening, There will be a full match programme and the draw for Augusts Maroon Army is at half time

Saturday the 1st of September 2012 its Galway United u19 V Mervue KO 7.30pm Eamonn Deacy Park Terryland

Tomorrow night is a positive step forward to do the right thing for the right reasons not personal reasons or protecting of positions at top tables

GUST left with little choice are building a football side now on to a long established supporters role.
It will succeed if the turnout at both parents nights and Gust meetings are any measure, it shows the determination of Galway people to do the right thing.
We will start at any level we are allowed but the complete organised, plotted, banishment of United from LOI football will end tomorrow night.

i have shed many tears this year over the fair few Galway United people who have passed on since january. Tomorrow night is dedicated to these people and their families. The peoples club lives on

Galway United 1 Mervue Utd 3

Eamonn DEacy Park Terryland. Attendance: 239

great football, ****ed rain all night, United lads nervous in the 1st half hour and first time playing together and playing in Terryland. The second half was excellent

Great to be back to at least be given a chance to secure what ended up to be very healthy income on gate, season ticket, programme and lotto sales. Thanks to everyone for the support

Was 239 the highest ever attendance at a LOI U19 match as some have claimed?

lets not go there, it was a decent turnout on a woeful night and the important thing is it enables us at some level to operate as a club, meet our people face to face and keeps us at some level in football.

No.

Definitely not.

Clubs don't generally publicise their U-19 attendances because, well, they don't really matter.

I've personally been at at least a half dozen U-19s games with bigger crowds though.

I spoke with parents of both teams in deacy park last saturday and all were of the opinion it was brilliant for their young players to play under lights in a stadium with a crowd a match programme pa announcer etc now this week the dictat comes down games have to b played between 2 and 4 on weekend days. I fully undrstand young teams coming from long distances and exceptions can b made but the whole ethos of u19 was to prepare these lads for the real thing. Who makes this stuff up we have people willing to come to games but stupid dictats for no other reason than to stop a club keeping spectators interested in the loi. Is it any wonder the league is dying
