Ex QPR and NI captain Alan McDonald (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2163621/Alan-McDonald-dies.html)collapsed and died while playing golf this morning. He was 48.

Condolences to his family, the NI supporters and the QPR supporters. He was a very decent bloke.

I remember Niall Quinn saying he came into the dressing room after the 1993 game at Windsor Park and wished the team well in the US encouraging them to go out there and make a good case for Irish football.

Yeah, a real rock of a leader on the pitch. I'm sure he was well loved by Not Brazil and the NI contingent on here and my condolensces for a great loss to NI and indeeed AI football.

Wembley 0-0 (85?) was a rearguaurd action by Jennings and MacDonald as good as any I've ever seen, though memory is a bit fizzy.

Terrible news - I had just come in from my round of golf yesterday to be told of Alan's sudden, and premature, death.

He always gave 100% for his country, and played with pride and passion.

He had a great sense of humour also - a few years ago I was in Armenia following Northern Ireland. Our Under 21's had a game in rural Armenia the day before the Senior International. It was bitterly cold, and the pitch was covered in snow. As the players were training, they were jogging towards the small group of Northern Ireland fans when suddenly they all started throwing snowballs at us. Alan, their coach, was in stiches that they had carried out his instructions.

I was also at the 1985 game at Wembley - Alan was superb that night.

He will be sorely missed.

Thanks for happy memories.

Rest in peace Big Mac.
