Looks like Micky Owen has joined the spainish giants.Only 12m e and one midfielder from madrid.Very cheap for a proven world class striker imo.

Sad to see him go as a liverpool fan but if his heart wasn't in it for the 'pool any more then he's better off in spain. What worries me now is that there is no recognised world class striker at the club.Baros and Diouf, although they haven't played much in all fairness to them have about 10 goals between them and Cisse is a bit of an unknown to me even though he has a big reputation.

Sinama-pong is only a young lad and Diouf seems to be on his way out of the club too so the new manager must bring in another striker if liverpool are to challenge this year.

Ya Real Madrid always buy crap players which is why they have 9 or 10 European cups.

If he gets a game for them he will be a revelation in La Liga, but with Raul and Ronaldo they already have 2 of the worlds best strikers sa it won't be easy.

Does anyone now anything about the guy who has gone to liverpool as part of the deal?

i think madrid should have gone for a centre back, but a presidant wouldn't get elected by saying he was going to sign a defender :(

They've already signed Walter Samuel!

Ya Madrid don't spend big bucks on defenders.

How much did they pay for Samuel?

Michael Owen was the best striker at Liverpool bar none. If Baros or Cisse score 25 - 30 goals a season for the next 5 or 6 years, than, and only then, can someone say that they were even in the same league as Michael Owen. He singlehandedly carried the Liverpool team for years (sometimes, fitfully, assisted by a few months of form from Gerrard). He, unlike some unknown quantity from Auxerre or Milan Baros, can validly say that he was the best striker in recent years in the Premiership alongside Henry, Shearer and Van Nistelrooy. To dismiss him as 'crap now' muist be the funniest thing I have seen written on this board...

Thats a good post,i'm sick of hearing ppl saying Owen is crap now,over-rated he's finished blah blahblah.Madrid have got a great striker for a bargain imo if Owen can stay injury free and with Raul,Ronaldo and Morientes they have the best combination of strikers of any club in the world.Baros and Cisse have to go a long way to being better than Owen.

Samuel is a good centre half,he could be the answer to Madrids defensive problems and the CL could be heading back to spain this year.

Even though Owen is "crap now", he still hit 18 goals last season, even though he spent quite a bit of it out injured, and playing in a very poor team.

Owen will flourish in a footballing team like Real.

What i find amazing though is that the Liverpool fans in general are fairly apatethic about his loss. In their minds he was always "an England player who just happens to play for Liverpool", rather than other way around.

Contrast that to when Fowler was given his marching orders by Houllier. Mass revolt.

Fowler was and still is much more loved than Owen ever was by liverpool fans.I don't know what it is but maybe Fowler has a bigger personality(or shows more of it in public) because Owen has almost as a good a strike rate as fowler at his best for liverpool when only shearer was a better striker in england.Fowler is called 'God' and has songs sung about him around anfield everytime he played for them while Owen gets an 'Only one Michael Owen' every couple of games.

Fowler is still 'God' though even if his powers have seriously depleted the last 3 or 4 years.Great goal last saturday.

owen's scored for 4 games in a row now, as they beat Getafe 2-0. I think Liverpool did great business selling him for so much, he's not that great at all, still can't figure out why Real signed him, Morientes is much better than he'll ever be. Cisse will come good given time

eh owen wanted to go. least liverpool got money than rather see him leave on a free.

Ya thats right,Owen wanted to join Madrid and there aren't many players who will turn down the chance to play at Real who are always challenging for La Liga and the Champs League.

Liverpool should have got a lot more than the 8m they got for Owen though which is a pittance imo.Proven world class striker that he is,compare that 8m with the 10m that arsenal paid for Jeffers or that l'pool paid for Diouf.

You can't say that Cisse has been that sh!t because he barely played and now we won't see how good he could have been this year anyway.

Liverpool have renewed their interest in Morientes from Madrid and I wouldn't be suprised if they got him in january,he's fourth choice now behind Ronaldo,Raul and Owen and surely he knows his days at Madrid as a first choice striker are over.

Baros is the only striker of any worth that liverpool have right now and he can't be depended on to score in every game.
