Fair enough, tell it to the editor next time you see him, all I was saying was that it wasnt club policy not to include/to include these comments/picture of McGovern..it was editorial policy, the editor isnt a member of the committee, if you feel its unprofessional he's the man to talk to, not anyone else..especially not me ;)
There is a disclaimer at the front that all articles which appear in the programme are solicited from contributors on a personal basis and do not necessarily reflect the views of Longford Town F.C. or its committee..its on the bottom of the first page
Aswell as this hiccup the Longford Town programme is full of irrelevent material particularly photos, ground regulations etc and does not show the real views of the general el fanbase. There is the chairman and managers message which is there just to fill space and an average of two articles at best per week.I suggest the editor moves back to the programme of the year of promotion to the premier and to avoid greater overheads perhaps black and white could be used in places instead of colour. The only way of getting people through the gate is to feel more attached to the team or localisation and the player interviews etc in the programme years ago was a great way of this.

I can see where you're coming from its just hard to get people to contribute decent articles meaning you have to fill up space somehow, when there's the odd player interview its more entertaining, Neil Halligan did a few interviews with Dessie, John Martin , Paul Keegan and Aaron Callaghan which were decent, a few more wouldn't go astray..In fairness though you have to have a Manager and Chairman's address, its a given in all programmes.

A couple of things i have to say. Firstly all people seem to be doing here is complaining about the club non stop. If it's not one thing it's another. We had Max Power whinging because he was told to shut up at the Rovers match. Big deal get over it. People are going on about Mc Govern being left out of the programme and now the programme isn't good enough. I buy a programme at every match both home and away and i am not being biast but i think ours is the best by far. If you don't like it don't buy it. Spend your spare €2 on half time draw tickets or the club Lotto and if that's not good enough why not do your own programme for yourself and then you will have nothing to complain about on that level.

Im not a fan of your club but know a few lads from Longford and have
been to a good few games over the last few seasons. The programme has gone downhill when you compare it to other clubs' programmes or even earlier town programmes..I liked the idea of player interviews, great way to get to know about the player himself..There was also articles on the league from a journalist from,The People,I think and they were worth
reading..It's no good writing about away trips, you have to have something that the fans can enjoy reading, after all it's them who buy the programme.
here here bonnie. hope our recent good form continues but i dont want to hear everything about it next week in the programme ;)

agree completely about the programme its not great.the content is read in about 5 minutes and the chairman and managers messages are standard to all programmes and matthews more then likely doesnt even write his.

Usually they give the gist of what they want said to the "ghost writer" who then does his best to flesh it out. Although Jim often does his own, he did the Athlone one. The programme covers are the same ones for every team for every cup match. Don't know why the Town aren't on it, ask the "FAIreland" marketing gurus about that one..

its understandable, dont ya think he has enough to do! training a team 2/3 times a week, games at the wknd and also a young family! screw a little articlle in a programme! it means nothin!
And a full time job to boot ! In the words of the immortal Pee Flynn, "You should try it sometime."
god ya forgot about the whole having a job as well!!!
Obviously it's nice to chat and I'm used to putting my foot down to contain the drival here but enough is really enough. This thread has decended too low for it to continue. The usual folk are giving their 2c on the issue and it's being shot down or attacked from an obsecure angle.
This issue is a particular thorn in the side. Really if you have a problem with the programme, it should be issued to the editor. The editor is a fan and a private individual, and he gives his time to the programme, he not looking for plaudits but he's helping the club in a real way and thus it's not really fair to put his effort under such scrutany on an internet message board. Lay off and suggest you help him in a more appropiate way.
Try to put the heads up here. There's an awful amount that goes on behind the scenes and we should take note and appreciate it more often. For a club of our size we're making an impact. :ball:
