The first episode of 'Green Is the Colour', a four-part documentary series on the history of football in Ireland, will be broadcast on RTÉ Two on Wednesday night (16th of May) at 10:25PM: http://www.rte.ie/ten/listings/22751897_tv_Green_Is_the_Colour

New series. Four-part documentary in which Darragh Maloney explores the history of Irish football and the national soccer team, beginning with a look at the years from 1863 to 1929, when rules and structure to the sport were developed in England, and the Irish Football Association was established

I'm assuming it's tied into this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Green-Colour-Story-Irish-Football/dp/0233003665), which I'm currently reading. Pretty good so far.

not really, your best bet is to connect a DVD recorded to the box, record it onto DVD and then rip the DVD on a PC

there may or may not be ways and means to rip from the RTE Player, where presumably it will be available.

Thats where I'm planning on get it (quality not great unfotunately), though I'm hoping someone will post it on Irish Torrents so it will be good quality.

'Tis related. Peter Byrne and Darragh Maloney discuss the book/programme in a 20-minute interview with Pat Kenny: http://www.rte.ie/sport/player/813/321181/

Indicates here that "Live Streaming" is Republic of Ireland only - that is usually an indication that the recording will only be available on the RTE Player within Ireland. Google the best options for Irish proxy server.

missed the first half hour, really enjoyed it though. Interesting stuff about the FAI being the representative of the Free State to FIFA, giving the fledgling nation some legitimacy in the eyes of the international community.

Have parts of it been uploaded? Don't suppose somebody here could do this? Would really appreciate it.

Enjoyed the first episode, I didn't realise that the GAA nearly folded in the early 1890's as fallout from Parnell's affair etc. It was also interesting to note that some of our founding fathers were soccer players which I'll take pleasure in reminding some Gah heads I:p know.
What I found interesting was there were several moves to unite both associations in the 1920's and that they nearly shook on an agreement in 1932! Who knows what could have been!

For anybody who missed it, or didn't know about it like me, I'm delighted to say it's repeated on Saturday at 6pm on RTÉ 2 (before the Champions League Final).

Quite enjoyed it. I found Micháel O Mhuirheairtigh (sp) ...ya him wot commentates on GAA matches -not beetlejuice now -the older chap. I found his comments inciteful and interesting as to how football took off in cities as it was a more condusive street game than the GAA alternatives.

I'd have liked an IFA perspective and thought we might get one when Maloney was shown driving to Belfast. There was a comment by a Northerner alright but I think he was a journalist -and of course there was the chap from UU as well -but they were both essentially neutrals. I'm sure an IFA participant would've argued that Belfast was the natural 'home' of Irish football and in relation to the Irish Cup games that became the tipping point they'd have argued, with whatever merit, that southern grounds and cities simply weren't safe for northern teams.

Even got a little lump in my throat hearing the story of the first full international in Turin.

I thought it was interesting that at one point the I.F.A were allowed to pick players from the island of Ireland but the F.A.I could only pick players from the republic. How the tables have turned.

No, but all of the episodes will be there in HD as well as all Ireland matches at the Euros so it would probably just be easier to sign up and not deal with this for all four parts.

Danny, any chance you can upload the next episode? thx

Wasn't actually myself had uploaded the first episode, but I see RTÉ have now had it removed from YouTube on copyright grounds along with other documentaries like 'The Cat is in the Bag' that were uploaded by the same user. With that in mind, 'haughtyjack' mightn't bother uploading the second episode. I'm sure it will appear on Irish Torrents at some point today, however, if you were willing to download it from there. Could send you an invite if you wish? Or when I finally get it, I could try uploading it to YouTube myself.
