View Full Version : Deportivo v Shels POLL
What result will you be looking for...
Percentage starting to take shape as expected now. I don't mind shels doing well to a point - group stages really would kill competition for league title.

Well probably would, as the figures quoted for United is a garanteed £12million stg for United reaching the group stages. Even allowing for the capacity difference, Shels must be looking at at least €12 million. However, and unfortunately, being realistic Longford don't have the resources to compete with Shels, Bohs, Cork etc now, so more important that the league has the credability as it won't really effect us.

surely if shels did make the group stages it would make the league in general a more attractive place to play in
Not wanting to sound bad but i would think all 1st division teams & some Premier teams wpould welcome Shels success if they felt couldn't compete with them anyway.
Last years prize money for CL was something like:
- €1.62m for taking part in the competition.
- €325,000 per match = €1.95m.
- €325,000 for a win and €163,000 for a draw.
- Each club was also entitled to a share of the market pool, allocated in proportion to the value of the TV contracts for the countries of the clubs concerned.
I dunno where 12m coming from but before gate receipts Shels would likely be guaranteed 4-5m.

It was in several papers do the 12m must be true ;) But the United would have 65000 every game, without paying rent on top, so that's maybe the difference, plus the TV contract would be more. If the figures you say are right, then the total domination overstated?

Look at it this way
You are a potential investor and are looking for a football club to throw your money at. Where do you go. English First/Second Division. Not likely to get too many returns too quickly unless you fast track to the premiership which will take millions more investment according to how fast you progress and still you are not guaranteed European success.
or
Look to Ireland. Shels and Cork have made the breakthrough on comparitively showstring budgets. One of them possibly 90 minutes away from a Big Payout. Competing in a small national fledgling league(on European Standards) but capable of European entry a lot easier than you might expect than say the UK. 20 odd clubs to pick from.
After Cork Citys and Shelbournes exposure in the past month or so, I wouldnt be too suprised if you get some big bank rollers coming to this side of the water. The sooner the better I say. In 20 years time the eL will be unrecognisable. The republic of Ireland will have won the world cup and half the players will be playing at home. save this message until 2024 and ill prove it.

Do they share the gate receipts (i.e. half of a full Nou Camp or San Siro)?

I just googled & got from UEFA site.
English clubs would surely get lareg amount from the TV pool + be making much more per seat at home games. Was 12m for 1st group stage cos think i've seen €25m as figure for Porto last year before gate receipts 7 other revenue added...
Nonetheless 5m is huge money in eL terms.
Fair conclusive results which just shows goodwill only goes so far.
lads keep costs in mind - hotels dont come cheap and shels are bringin a load of players who wont even get a game
I heard from a "reliable source" that the bonus money so far has earned one squad player (who has no chance of even gettin an appearance) 6000 euro
the bonus so far has been about 100,000 and this is divided between the entire squad whether they play or not
nice work if you can get it :D
