Morning Junior, I take it those those saturday morning drive's up the M6 and M74 will be coming to an end soon then ;) .
Went to the game in Poland with amongst other's Lopez, Davros and the small Boston Celtic's jacketed one. Had a great time, Warsaw is a nice city and the old town's lovely and has load's of great little bar's. As for The price of the beer  :D
We flew Air Polonia from Stansted for I think it was 90 odd, and accomodation was'nt that expensive and that was in the city centre.
If yer got a couple of day's there then check out Krakow, great city and you can get a fast train there from Warsaw 2 hour's 30 minute's it take's.
NO doubt will see yerself and the posse in Basel.

cheers Sylv,
Was set on going to Warsaw, but have since heard a few adverse comments about it, and people suggesting Krakow is much better. The connections aren't as good to Krakow as to Warsaw, and dragging a gang of lads between cities when you are only away for 2 nights might be asking a bit too much of my (or Neils for that matter) organisational skills!!!!!!
As for the ventures up the M6, I renewed my ST but I think I'll be doing a lot more driving and a lot less getting pished this season, I no longer hold the purse strings :D
Won't be heading to Basel I'm afraid, booked for the Cyprus game and Paris so far - And deffo want to go to the Faroes.
If you've any www. for Warsaw / Krakow - would be appreciated.
cheers,
Jnr
Do the adverse comments suggest that people don't see it on the 'stag night' circuit yet? It's as lively as Krakow IMO but also is not yet seen as a destination for the single man's last place of enjoyment. :D Definitely worth going. And the beer?

just comments like "its a concrete hell hole" etc... I'm all for these type of places that are still largely undiscovered by the western world. To be fair they were comments from people who had been there.
However, I'll gladly take on board yourself and Sylvys views seeing as Im sure we have similar tastes in drinking establishments :D and you've both been there recently.

Krakows supposed to be quite good, but in the last three months I've been in Prague and Budapest on Stags. Both were excellent, and cheap if you find the right spots. Prague was particularly good for the stag. 24 of us went on a 'Steak & Tits' cruise. Basically it was a 2 1/2 hour river cruise with an all you can eat barbecue, 5 pints (or bottles) of beer, oh and 2 1/2 hours of naked Czech chicks lapdancing for us and performing amazing lesbian acts upon each other. All this for €42 a head....worth the weekend alone... :D

I Polish girl I met while interrailing said Krakow was better for Nightlife and more picturesque than Warsaw. She said that Warsaw was a bit like Brussels, fairly business/government orientated and Krakow was more cultured (like Barcelona or Seville compared to Madrid). I’ve not been to Poland myself but hope to go there sometime soon.
Having said all that, time and time again people told me not to go to Croatia a couple of years ago but when I went it was beautiful. Dubrovnik is a real gem, people should try and go there as soon as possible before it goes all touristy, maybe its the same with Warsaw.

Polish people recomend Krakow over Warsaw.
Ive been to Krakow twice but never to Warsaw and my advice is to go to Krakow if you can. Its a great City and has a great nightlife. The first time I was there I got to know Morris, the owner of O'Morgans Irish pub (which has since moved and changed name). He's gas altogether and looked after us really well. Theres loads of culture, a nice castle and lovely scenery (you can cut out all the commie towerblocks quite easily). It was the European City of Culture in 2000 which puts it on par with Cork, so its got to be great! ;) :)
If you can, go to Krakow!
PS try EB beer thats been microwaved! (great for keeping warm in winter) and brown Buffalow vodka
stay away from the "oirish bar" in gdansk (sp!)
oh my god

cheers lhads,
My preference would definitely be Krakow from what I've read here and other message boards. However, you can get a direct flight from Mcr to Warsaw. to Krakow means connections or a 2.5hr train and extra cost for those who go. When you are only there for 2 nights Im not sure its worth the extra hassle.
