Unrealistic contest in Cork tonight as Wexford made nine changes from the team that started against Harps on Saturday and, not unexpectedly, paid the price. With only Deano and John Yeats remaining from the XI which started against Harps, Youths started with Cormac, Mark, Murt, James Scallan, Corky, Crokey, Patsy, John, Clarkey, Deano and Chris Fennor up front on his own. First few minutes were fairly even but it soon turned in a procession of Cork attacks with the Youths defending. After ten, Cork had a shot just wide and after fifteen, a Cork forward shot well over when well-placed. With twenty gone, Cormac saved well from the impressive Daryl Horgan. However, a few minutes later, Horgan turned in from the right and, not being closed down put it away nicely into the top left corner for 1-0. After a half-hour, Youths had their first effort on target when Deano hit a goal-bound free-kick which was comfortably held by Burns.

With five to go in the half, Spillane advanced forward from the back and let a low shot go from thirty which was deflected past Cormac for 2-0 to Cork at half-time. Second half started poorly with Cork dominating possession but not creating much and Youths creating nothing at all. After fifteen, Patsy picked up a yellow for a tackle. With twenty gone, Youths gave a bad goal away when a throw-in back to Cormac never reached him and PUrcell lifted it over the stranded Youths keeper for 3-0. With twenty to go, Shane Nolan came on for Chris Fennor up front.

With fifteen to go, Patsy and John were replaced by Brian Nolan and Jimmy Dermody. Cork then scored their fourth when a WExford defender cleared a shot off the line but the linesman flagged it as a goal and James Scallan picked up a yellow for dissent. With a few minutes to go, Davin O'Neill created a good move off the right wing and buried one top left for 5-0. Crokey then picked up a yellow for a tackle and the last move of the match was a sublime floated chip by Deano from thirty out which beat Burns in the Cork goal for a 5-1 final score.

Best for Wexford in a match which will not be remembered long were Patsy and John in midfield and Murt and James Scallan in defence while Deano was the only player to provide a threat going forward. Would have thought that Muzzi, who was cut from last year's squad, would have been an addition to the team tonight. 5-1 at full-time.

Have to draw attention to James Scallan's yellow card for dissent. Way too much back-talk with referees in our team, think Keegan needs to come down hard on that indiscipline. I thought Danny's straight red for dissent last week would have taught all the boys a lesson, but Scallan was roaring at the linesman and the referee with absolutely no thought as to the inevitable consequences. Full marks to referee on the night.

It is a little worrying for another player to pick up a card for dissent and it seems James might have been lucky not to get a red card if screaming at a linesman
