So what is the Sindo's agenda in its now month-long campaign against the national broadcaster? With Gallaghergate no longer under investigation (the tweet broadcast was avoidable, but SG was hoist by his own petard), the paper has resorted to a story that Norris was grilled by a Higgins supporter on the programme, but MDH merely cleverly stayed out of the firing line. As for the claim that RTÉ has "a liberal/left bias", that doesn't stack with 14 years of support for Ahern and Cowen, and Kenny largely avoiding criticism on the station, and while FF may be under-represented on current affairs programmes, that's due to their failure to offer an alternative viewpoint. Yes, there may be a perceived bias towards the Palestinian perspective in foreign news coverage, but that in itself doesn't warrant an inquiry. The Sunday Independent seem to be overly emphasising McLuhan's vision of televisual media shaping the news agenda, while hypocritically claiming to be the all-encompassing newspaper voice of the people! Perhaps a greater trust of the general public's critical faculties is in order?

Eoghan Harris has been railing against RTE on a regular basis since he was frozen out in the 90s. Eoghan's ex-wife, Anne Harris, took over editorship last month following the death of her husband Aengus Fanning. I guess she's more sympathetic to the cause than her late husband was.
