Two good goals lifted an otherwise pretty drab affair and resulted in a point apiece in Terryland tonight. With Craig Wall injured, Shane Keegan brought in Shane Dempsey and started 4-5-1 with Graham, Brian, Jamie, CJ, James, Aidan, Shane D., Shane N., Danny and Tom up front on his own. With both sides playing with one up front, the midfield was pretty congested and neither side was able to create much in what was a poor enough first half. Wexford started the brighter without creating much and other than a few yellow cards apiece, the first half-hour was forgettable. However, with seven to go in the half, Tom was able to have a run in on goal but a heavy touch meant that the SD keeper was able to block it away. Then with three to go in the half, SD had a dangerous cross-shot from the right but no-one was able to get on the end of it and it went a few yards wide. 0-0 at half time and little to report.

Wexford again started the stronger in the second and after five, Shane Nlan got a shot away which went just over. After another Wexford half-chance, the Youths went ahead after nine with a bit of class from Shane Dempsey when he took on a volley from a ball which came to him 25 yards out, and just bouncing in front of the SD keeper, gave him no chance for 1-0 to the Youths. With the quarter-hour gone, Tom Elmes had a reasonable chance but he pulled a low shot a few yads wide. Midway through the second hald, SD made two substitutions and Deano came on for Aidan and went wide right. Deano then crossed two from his wing to the other to find Danny free on both occasions but his efforts went wide and then straight at the keeper.

However, the remainder of the match belonged to SD and ith fifteen to go, the ball was knocked down inside the Wexford box but the first-time volley was blasted over. With 12 to go, SD took a short corner and Graham had to dive bravely to block a shot and the rebound was knocked past him but cleared by a Youths defender on the goal-line. SD also hit the bar with a header during this period of pressure and then, with ten to go, Gaffney curled a 30 yard free-kick straight over the wall and top-right corner to give Graham no chance for 1-1.

With a few minutes to go, Thomas Croke came on for Brian Nolan and the last action of the match was a push away by Graham of a bouncing free-kick by SD which was otherwise goal-bound. Best for Wexford in a disjointed performance were Danny, who looked most potent when he got the ball but I would prefer him up front rather than wide, James Darmody and Deano when he came on. SD are definitely a better proposition than last year and finished the second half very well after they made their substitutions. 1-1 at full time.

150? Enough said. 500/600 hardy and loyal fans left without a team to support for the 2nd week in a row while two clubs can barely cobble that between them. The mind boggles

Out of curiosity Forza, how many in attendance were Wexford fans?

I reckon there was about 15 fans from Wexford in the away section. There was also a good group, maybe 12-15, from the IT Carlow ladies team who were in Galway for a competition just over the dividing mesh who were also supporting the Youths.
