Actually, it's over 90,000 if you include players, coaching staff and officials etc.

Saw this. Would anyone have an idea how much money he's on over there if they can attract that sort of a crowd?

I read in one of the papers (indo possibly) hes getting what he made in 3 months, in Derry per week over there, pretty sure it was an actual quote from Zayed too.

Thought it was said somewhere he was going to get €100,000 for the 3 months over there. Surely he will be able to pick up a club in England on his return or has he said he will return to the LOI?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persepolis_F.C.

They are the most poplar team in Asia according to the wikipedia which is huge. 90,000 at that game is an incredible crowd. He'll be a hero down there after pulling back three goals, with 10 minutes to go and 2-0 down.

Not to mention that it's the biggest game in the domestic calendar, similar to El Clasico, so even he never scored another goal there, he'd still be a legend.

Great to see any ex LOI player doing well so good luck to him (still not quite as good a player as he thinks he is :D).

Typical, I bet Trap does not go and see matches over there :p

Pats played 2 friendlies in Iran in 1990z drew 0-0 with the national side and lost 2-0 to a club side (forget which one). There was 90,000 at the national side game too

I spoke to a couple of players about it recently and it's one of their favourite memories from the time. Pats also played a friendly in Tunisia around the same time (drawing that too)

With the first being a right-footer and the second with the head, all it needed was the last one to be with the left! :ball:

They(Persepolis) were also down to 10 men.

I wonder will she pack it in now because Eamon isgone, or she she have an interest in media anyway?

She is easy on the eye admittedly but she seemed clued in as well which is the main thing.

Three good goals too. Fair play to him I'd say it's some buzz.

Fair play to him. Some cool finishing. What level would Persepolis/the Iranian League be at? Anything comparable more close to home?

Is he actually tied to Libya? :p

He's lining out with Ali Karimi, Vahid Hashemian and Mehdi Mahdavikia there anyway; three players with a wealth of Bundesliga experience at clubs like Bayern Munich, Schalke and Hamburg among others.

Fair play to him.
Some turnaround given that lots of the fans were leaving before he scored his first.
Has this featured on any RTE sports reports?

The Iranian clubs tend to win the Asian Champions League fairly regularly, so much the same standard as the J-League or the Korean championship.

An Iranian club hasnt won the ACL for something like 20 years, the J-League and K-League would be a far higher standard.

Zayed got awarded World Player of the Week ahead of Didier Drogba and Robin van Persie!

Probably on par with the Danish league (or a shade below it) but they are seriously well equipped out there. Only one club (Saipa idb) isn't state owned even though most club are listed as owned by a company (just a main sponsor) so they get the same level of support across the board to put into training facilities and player development.

Interesting to see him celebrating, looked like he was holding back - must have been worried about the ramifications of something like this incident

Two Iranian player’s have been banned from entering any Iranian stadiums, after the Iranian FA deemed their Persian Gulf Cup goal celebrations too intimate.
Mohammed Nosrati and Sheis Rezael were banned indefinitely for their goal celebrations during the Persian Gulf Cup tie between Persepolis and Damash Gilan which was broadcasted live in the staunchly Islamic Country. Persepolis have failed to comment on their player’s ban’s, probably for fear of incrimination

Nosrati 6 months
Rezaei - still banned
