yeah, and crowds are usually good around that time of year, should be a good cup atmosphere.

and you never know, we might sneak a good result!

what i was hoping for! the cross should be a very uncomfortable place for rovers that sunday

I see no reason to fear Rovers especially at home.

You only have to look at our superb record (excluding the Mounty games) against the hooped ones in the last few years.

should we get a full house for that 1? or am i dreaming? it certainly deserves it. Knowing the good people of Cork it will probably depend on the weather

I think we all have a tendency to hype games up too much & then expect a full house.

Might depend on how we do at Richmond on friday but i wouldn't be unhappy with 5k. On the other hand i've missed a lot of home cup games in recent seasons which had bigger crowds than i expected too. Rovers do have that "cup specialists" tag that brings out all the oldies too.

It is the tie of the round, should be on tv. A City V Rovers cup tie what more does anyone want?

Exactly Niamh!
We always do well against the rovers, they're always very good games + richardson always entertains us by doing his nut, and it's the cup!! And it's at christmas too!!! It's gonna be super:). I honestly can't wait:)

fingers crossed the atmosphere will be like the league cup win in '99! great match , huge crowd, what a goal! and a city win!

Hard to believe that Hartigan got probably the best City goal I've ever seen in terms of skill and importance. I still remember trying to recount the pass in that most sublime of moves.

as regards quality of football and number of passes etc, it was a fantastic goal. we played some great football in those days

I think the draw was probably the best we could have got, we wouldn't have wanted a non-league team as there would have been extreme pressure on city to win by more than 4 or 5 goals. Rovers always brings out the best in the players not to mention the supporters.
City to win on Friday and again in the Cup!!

The League Cup final was great with largest crowd (9k?) at the cross since Dundalk title deciding game!

The pale big teams seem to be the best organised commercially & have more consistent crowds but when the good times are a rolling Derry & Cork City can bring out the bumper crowds!

I'm sure a decent amount of away supporters will travel from the pale too.

who knows we might even entice some cork people down from the pale to support their side eh ;)

i'd say the pats Match in the league had a bigger crowd. i remember the echo saying 11,000. what big crowds we had back then

I'd tend to agree with you.
AFAIK they were only supposed to allow a certain amount of people in for safety reasons so I doubt if the "official" attendance was actually 11,000. It would probably be safe to say you could add a few more thousand on to that figure.

Having said that I don't think that we would get anywhere near that crowd now if we got Pats in the cup. City v Rovers is the tie of the round.

thats the problem if its a bad wet windy/cold day the "sunshine supporters" will stay at home and watch it on the tv

it was so packed that day against pats. When Skippy headed in that goal the place went mental. Pats had over 1,000 fans too that day by all accounts. great stuff

Going off thread anyway but........

That past game was the game we lost the league.
- Absolutely murdered Pats in the1st half playing into the shed, looked brilliant on tv
- Gave away to shocking goals in the 2nd half :(

Davie never could cope with Pats 5 man midfield

who knows we might even entice some cork people down from the pale to support their side eh

Yeah i'm sure a good few rovers fans will travel down ;)

You come on here making snyde remarks and then you scurry off for a brew before anyone can challenge you.

Unfortunatly I'll be in New Delhi for the Carlsberg FAI Cup game against Rovers. I'm sure however James that you'll be able to keep me updated on the progress of the game as you'll be sat behind you're monitor flicking between InTheNet.ie and Aertel Online and the like.
