I assume that means Sligo Rovers, the best team in the land.

No, I got it, but I do love the guy who responded to me. Surely he must be taking the mick as well with his comments re: Aiden McGeady???

Some people are really on the ball on this site ;P

Another start for Enda today against Man City

So far himself and Ireland (and Benteke) are the best players on the pitch. Stevens just put in an absolute peach of a first time cross that saw Benteke denied by a great claw away from Hart.

Could have cleared the ball for their goal? Perhaps I'm being harsh...

Linesman ruined this game. Feel bad for villa, they've deserved more.

Stevens involved in any of the goals conceded? Sounds like Villa were undone by a baffling decision.

Personally feel he was ball watching and didnt have a clue where tevez was for the last

And on second look, similar to last week I feel he is out of position for the 4th, why does he insist on staying deeper than the centre backs and keeping people onside

Good first half. Second was pretty poor but then Villa collapsed as a whole after the disgraceful first peno decision.

As Brian Kerr pointed out in commentary, that back four with the exception of Vlaar are very young and inexperienced-both Clark and Stevens have ability but will need time.

SwanVsDalton
18/11/2012, 7:51 PM
Well can accept that. Only realistic Stevens will struggle with some aspect of the step-up, particularly in Villa's current defence, but doesn't sound like he's totally out of his depth.

what?

SwanVsDalton
19/11/2012, 3:36 PM
what?

Obvious no? Villa were one down, then had a WTF peno given against them and then disintegrated. No comment on whether they'd have been well beaten otherwise, but they were at least in the game at the time of the decision.

It's painful I had to explain that to you.

At this point the sanest explanation for your constant baiting of my posts is you fancy me and crave the attention...

No, I just find your analysis, or reading of situations quite perverse.

It was 5.15 the game was over, they lost 5-0, but yet you came out and said something strangely baffling.

Funny though, not only are you baffling, but your modesty gives you some perverse feeling of attractiveness to other men :D

It wasn't particularly baffling. You're a poster who likes to throw around the phrase 'read between the lines', but a modicum of just that would make it glow-in-the-dark obvious that I was never suggesting a)Villa were on course for anything but defeat or b)they deserved anything other than defeat.

At worst what I wrote was poorly phrased, but I decided not to bother with the edit because I give the posters on here some credit when it comes to discerning meaning.

I'll be sure to remember your own need for above and beyond clarity next time but regardless it was hardly 'perverse', 'baffling' or objectionable, unless you think the linesman/ref made the right call or you've got a particular desire to engage me in a bit of one-on-one.

Let's be honest POS this is the latest in a line of innocuous comments I've made which you've churlishly nitpicked to death. I genuinely don't know what I've done to warrant you fine tooth-combing my comments like a rabid Soviet era media censor, before jumping on any slight inconsequential misreading you possibly can at EVERY single opportunity.

Leave microscoping my comments to an actual debate instead of plucking some imaginary argument from something I didn't even say. That way threads won't be cluttered up with your love letters. Until then...

Funny though, not only are you baffling, but your modesty gives you some perverse feeling of attractiveness to other men :D

...you're fooling nobody. :)

Firstly, You are spending too much time on plenty of fish, you are confusing yourself, this is foot.ie....:D

Secondly, I don't need to formulate paragraphs in response to a couple of lines, not sure why you feel the need to. I have a proper job and don't have the time to write essays on here, but each to their own :D

Lastly, This is a football forum, where users disect and divide opinions, you find yourself in discussions/arguments with those whose opinions are polar to yours. I used to find myself at loggerheads manys a time with Skstu for example, less so now, whether he would like to admit it or not, we are agreed more regularly than not now. Talking about regularity, I'm sorry if you are a little sensitive and feel im picking on you(or nitpicking as you like to call it), around this time of the month, but when your period is over I'm sure you will feel less sensitive.

Now, ill do the age old, thats the end of the discussion for me - on Enda Stevens and villas hammering by an unjust penalty decision :D Feel free to respond as I know you will, but its the last from me.

If you find agreement with SkStu, that's probably because you have realized that SkStu is right in all opinions and you have accepted the wrongness of your opinions.

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

Seriously, he will make it in Div.2/The Championship/SPL.
Good luck to him, but so what?

Thanks lads, I'll take that as a compliment as Bono looks the best of the three of them. However, I 'm beginning to look like Trimble with a memory like John Hume, and this is not meant to be an insult to John, just reality!

Only the 2nd time I've seen him play for Villa and already he's a better option for Ireland than Stephen Ward.

His best performance so far. Looked decent. Never really ventured forward but defended well. Ciaran Clarke had a great game for Villa. This lad is a real leader and will be a big player for Ireland. Hopefully Stevens will also keep improving.

SwanVsDalton
24/11/2012, 7:23 PM
Encouraging he's kept his place despite the return of Lichaj and Baker. Be interesting to see what happens when Bennett is fit again, who hasn't overly impressed since joining. Chance for Stevens to keep in the team and keep improving. Very pleasing to see another LOI player getting a Prem look in.

He was very quiet which is good enough for me!

Three Premier League starts in a row - Trap's lucky there's no squads to leave him out of until February.

Yes, against Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal. Not a bad introduction to the Premiership.

I thought he was very tidy yesterday. Defended well. When he was beyond the half way line and received the ball he was clearly not comfortable with taking on his man but i would put that down to experience.. Clarke played a blinder and was leading the defence quite well. Very pleasing performances altogether

I think it was acknowledged back in August that march was a long way away in football to be played terms. THe hope that someone might emerge and others gain vital experience in the premiership appears to be coming to fruition. HOpefully Stevens keeps his place and builds on his gametime and experience. the only worry was whether or not trap woulD pick these players...

2013 might not be so bad afterall.

Charlie Darwin
25/11/2012, 5:26 PM
From the highlights it looked like Oxlaide-Chamberlain was able to get in behind Stevens a lot, but his scramble defence was good to avoid giving up any proper chances. Clark still looks a bit reckless but his last-ditch defending is superb. He's really in the Honey Monster mould.

Charlie Darwin

He appears to have won over this section of the Villa support - looks like they already rate him ahead of Bennett. Hopefully Lambert feels the same way with Lichaj and Bennett returning to fitness.

Their limited ability to construct sentences(yes like myself...) stops me from getting too excited about their opinion of a footballer.

But lets hope they are right and he gets a few more games to prove his worth.

I'm beginning to believe that having the ability and getting a chance to play in the PL are far from related, possibly coincidental in many circumstances..

Very unlucky. Hopefully he can bounce back quickly and get back in the team. Bennett's been unconvincing at LB and Lichaj is an RB.

It was a good piece of defending which caused the bloody injury. He tried to play on but couldn't thats the worrying part...

This unrelenting spate of injuries to prospective left backs could be a just simple case of Ward delving into black magic.

Don't know how bad it is, he walked off with a limp after a tackle.
If Trap was their manager, we would be sure to get an accurate diagnosis /prognosis in the PMI.
