Well thats where the management come in. Your players should know not to lose heart over pre-season, and management have to buck players up for the first game of the season.
Spot on...Big test of Paul O'Brien now.
Doesn't necessarily mean anything for the season ahead, but by god that was a slaughter in Tallaght tonight.
7-1 with 30 minutes left without Twigg. More wingers getting beyond full-backs than any time last season and excellent combinations between Brennan, Dennehy, Finn, Gilbert, Powell and Kavanagh. Greene missed a hat-trick of one-on-ones in the second half. Could very easily have been 14 or 15+

It's all part of the plan.....well it would be if we had one. But don't worry, with the help of our good buddy John we'll be in the top tier next season ;)

Well that was the problem most people had with Shams last season, Unbelievable squad but the manager was holding them back.
With Kenny.......

I know O Neill was negative but surely he allowed his wingers beyond his full backs?;)

I know it's only pre-season but I've a sneaky suspicion;
1. That Cork are really going to struggle to score goals and lose a lot of games they should win.
2. That Limerick are not going to be quite as dominant as they think they will be.
3. Shamrock Rovers will destroy all before them, with Pats, Sligo and Derry in that order behind them.
4. SDG & Mervue will be a lot closer to the 1st div play-offs than people expect.
5. Waterford won't finish in the top three (maybe four) in division one.

Went to the Limerick - Drogheda match.
Drogheda are a completely different team when the 3 Brennans are on the pitch - some really top class moves from them. They seem to bring something undefinable onto the pitch, too - Drogheda seemed invincible all of a sudden, I don't know what it was but it was there: the buzz around the place was palpable when they came on...
If I was a LoI manager I would not have S Bradley anywhere near my squad. Every time I see him play he just seems to give the ball away trying to pull off some utterly unnecessary killer through ball. The worst thing, though is his attitude - he spends far too much time criticising his team mates, whinging and complaining. Poison.

We never got going today at all. Tadhg Purcell started up front but didn't look fit.
Gave away two poxy goals, but STD Galway could surprise a few people this year I'd say (think they'd already beaten Drogs as well?). Hopefully a kick up the hole ahead of next week.

Harps play Buncrana Hearts tomorrow at 2pm in Finn Park.
Brian Gaffney scored a screamer for SD Galway. Duno what our defence and Nults were up to for their second
Great free kick from Colin Healy.
Not sure what to make of that tonight. . Healy was good when he came on, scored a good free in fairness. We can do better.
SD Galway look a half decent outfit.

Was genuinely only tipping SD Galway to one of the lads this morning, they're still terrible but they look like they've a bit more backbone to them.
Like take Ciaran Foley and Mixie Harty - Crap, but unlike last year, not porous crap

At least one of the Brennans is a diving, whinging, cheating, biatch.
I can never figure out which one tbf.

He made our goal..........
I get what your saying on the Hollywood balls to an extent though, I just assumed a few extra were going astray because it's pre season. :worries a tiny bit:

Did Bradley make the goal? I remember it was a ball in from the right wing and Gaffney volleyed it in. Nice finish...I honestly don't remember seeing Bradley in the build up.
I really think the biggest problem I have with the bloke is his attitude - I'd rather not watch him play.
Overall, Limerick were the better team in the first half - Gamble doesn't look fit, Behan, Purcell, Gaffney stood out for me - when the Brennans came on Drogheda looked like winning.
Brilliant save by Sava from Gamble's shot in the first half.
Fabio went off injured.

Did alright, it was a good run out.
Gaffney was probably the stand out from a Limerick point of view.
Gamble did fairly well defensively going forward he's a bit Joe Gambleish.
Shane Tracy has played his way into the starting eleven over the course of the pre season as far as I'm concerned, clever, decent, player.
Young McGann did well when he came on.
Biggest plus point from the game for Limerick was undoubtedly Gary Sheahen coming on for the last twenty and getting through it alright.
Drawprobably was fair, Drogheda look fairly decent this year.
Yeah; he plays for Shamrock Rovers now.
No, it's definitely one of the ex Monaghan ones he wasn't on the field two minutes today and he was diving and screaming and crying.
Did Bradley make the goal? I remember it was a ball in from the right wing and Gaffney volleyed it in. Nice finish...I honestly don't remember seeing Bradley in the build up.
The ball only came in from the right because Bradley spotted Kelly out there in acres of space and played a great ball to him.

It was Shane Tracy and it was indeed a great save.
Gamble shot just wide shortly after it.

Thats definitely just something from today the man is ridiculously fit and has showed it in other pre season games.
Delighted Behan played well didnt start pre season too well.
All the ******** spouted about Killian Brennan is absolutely ridiculous. Contrary to popular myth, Brennan actually has an excellent attitude, and works hard.

Ya must have been a once off thing cause a mate of mine involved was telling me Gamble and Brosnan smashed the bleep test and are ridiculously fit. Purcell is up there too as one the fittest.

He looked boll0cksed when he was taken off - maybe that's all - the match was not a testimonial-level friendly; there was a fair bit of bite and pace in it.

The midfield was packed, we played 4-5-1 again, Waters seemed to be the man being the striker. Ran his heart out and looks a great wee player. The defences was stable with Danville in for Hernany. Foran switched in there for the second half alonside Burns and they looked very strong together.

It amazes me after what I saw of him in his brief stint at the RSC that he has got anywhere near a senior club again. I suppose people can change. In theory anyway.
Even more baffling is that he started, whilst the genius that is Paul Walsh was left on the bench. I hope and assume this is just pre-season shennanigans.

Ah, well as I said "I know it's only pre-season but I've a sneaky suspicion" - not the hard core irrefutable facts you seek, merely an outsider making one of a number of observations based on the preseason games thus far.

They may be pointless friendlies but they do give some idea of the quality in a team. What style they might play etc....
Being beaten in most of them isn't the end of the world but it doesn't do much for confidence either.

Cork City 3-1 Wexford
Waterford 0-3 Cork City
Longford 1-4 Cork City
Cork City 2-2 Limerick
Cork City 1-2 SD Galway
So on the basis of scoring 13 goals in 5 games, you're predicting that we'll struggle to score goals this season?
El-Pietro
27/02/2012, 10:17 AM
Wexford and Waterford were poor enough - wouldnt look too much into those games, I wasn't at Longford or SD Galway so won't comment on their defences
regardless, we will be playing tougher teams in the Premier than we have so far in pre season , Limerick perhaps being the exception. We won't know how good this team (or any team) is until we've a few games under our belts.
(you also left out Rockmount by the way - won that 3-2 with a team of U19s and fringe players)
