Well maybe you should use words that convey what you want to say instead of the usual petulant drivel.
How being in the first Division for 5 seasons will affect my ability to understand what you spout is rather confusing. You should explain that as well.

Anyway back to what seems to be your point:- Any soccer fan/supporter understands that in a league situation that having to battle against your hated rivals is what makes it what it is. With Bohs in the doldrums, Rovers won't put the same worth on beating them as they would be as much of a danger to Shams as would UCD.
Now I know that the heady days of the last 3 years have been something for Shams fans but do you really want to have the situation that they had in Norway in the early 1990s? I don't think so. A strong Shamrock Rovers needs a strong Bohs and vice versa.

I'd add to that Bonnie, Rovers need 3-4 strong sides to push them on. Sligo look like they'll be a force this year, in the cups anyway, Derry (if they get the right man) will be up there, Shels are top-5 material and Cork won't slouch. While Pats are going to be a top-3 side if they get it together. Could be a tight league.

As for Aaron, I think some UCD fans can elaborate (and he was at Pats last year right?), as a person he's sound as a pound and witnessing his coaching (even when he was told he was gone from UCD) he didn't waver. Maybe with a good number 2 had can get it right.

His major flaw is man management, he's too hot headed and seems to lose the dressing room due to going overboard with his criticisms. He's best suited to being a number two with someone to rein him in. He wasn't the best at allocating his budget either whilst with us IMO. He is a sound guy though so I hope it works out for him.

While I am not in a position to talk about another poster's brain, I fail to see why anyone would disagree with this point. It's self-evident that the more you have to raise your game the better you're going to get. Obviously playing Barca every week and getting humiliated will do nothing for you but that kind of gulf doesn't exist in the LoI, does it?
The closest point of comparison to my mind is Shams' Europa League group campaign this year....maybe that was getting past the point of diminishing returns in that after a while they were learning nothing useful?

that press release is wrong in sayin that AC played for us.. not true in the slightest.. I am very surprised that Pete Mahon wasnt asked back or John Gill.. AC made a promisin start as mgr with us in 08 but lost his way badly and at one stage we had lost eight on the bounce.. He is good as coach that is his strength and would explain why we won trophies in the middle of the last decade.. but as mgr no he falls out with everyone from fans,board & players. I wish him luck but I cant see him lastin it..Owen Heary was the preferred choice for a lot of people..

Heary will be his assistant. It should help to address some of Callaghans alleged man-management deficiencies outlined on here.

Marty, Mahon? Really?? We dont want him and im pretty sure the feeling is mutual. Gill applied but Callaghan won out. His work and successes with underage players were likely what got him the job.

Good appointment in my opinion, about as good as we could have expected. Im optimistic bout this one!

Heary did an interview with the sun recently he said he couldn't get the job because he doesn't have the required license but he would love to continue managing the u-19's and would love to be the new gaffers assistant, he also said he would like to play for another season.

I think so yeah, when we had about 5 players signed a few days before our first game! I think he may have been registered the following year at some point as an emergency but I'm not 100% sure on that. He was always very fit, would have done a job if needed.

Meanwhile back in the grown up world, while we all enjoy rivals misfortune most of us want a strong competitive League. The loss to the Premier Division of Derry, Cork Shels, and shams in recent years did nothing to improve the division or the publicity the Premier Division attracts. Whatever distain/dislike we have for local rivals we need them there - even if its only to "hate" for 90+ mins. Its not rocket science.

Individual clubs and their catchment areas are affected but they've little impact on those around them. Drogheda had their biggest success (and consquently biggest crowds) in 2007 when Dundalk and Shels were in the first division. Did they care?

Agree to disagree on impact of "bigger" clubs Dodge, Drogs biggest success was on a huge (unsustainable) budget - success always attracts "supporters". Lots of factors influence crowds but higher profile clubs do affect gates.

Besides, hardly a stretch to suggest that Drogs crowds would have been even bigger had they gone head to head with a successful Dundalk side.

Suspect you may be right about Callaghan/Heary partnership. Probobly more 50/50 than manager, Asst manager. Most suspect that had Heary got the required badges that he would be the new manager. Not sure if they know each other (or how well) so interesting to see how relationship "gels".
