hes 35, 36 in July
No goals yet this year, 3 in 23 last season (15 starts) with 14 in 30 (25 starts) two years ago.

Fair to say age is catching up with him, though he should rattle a few in against Salthill, Wexford Athlone etc

He's coming home to Charleville, building a new house. He's doing his badges and it seems he'll be in a player/coach role for Limerick. His experience from Europe would be invaluable to a lot of the young palyers at the club.Doubt he'd be a starting striker but would be a good back up.

I know he is 35, but it shows how much we have come along in the last few seasons that the likes of Dominic Foley wouldnt be considered a starting player. Great to have in the squad as a player/coach role. played in the Europa League last season, has played top-flight football in Belguim since 2005. Another International capped player in the squad so i'd love to see him sign.

In fairness he was playing in a far superior league against far far superior teams then he will be playing against this season. He has only stated 2 games this season too.

His Experience will be a great asset. Thats if he signs i was just saying i would like to sign him

We'll be fine for goals as long as we have The Beast :p

Just checked Cercle Brugge's website there, he signed a 3 year contract with them in June 2009, so id say his contract would be up in June. On the way in June maybe?

Wasn't sure were ye were getting the info that he was signing from.

Great adition to the squad if you ask me. Now get the two CSKA Moscow lads in and we will have 3 full internationals in our squad.

It doesn't say we are signing him just rumours that we are at the minute.

Who are the 3 full internationals cos if you forgot Joe Gamble he will not be happy

If we get the CSKA lads, Dawid Janczyk has 5 senior caps for Poland, Joe Gamble has 2 for Ireland and Domic Foley has 6 for Ireland.

No need for them if we are signing Foley and Derek O Brien is signed.

Be good for a bit of interest but id rather blood young lads like Steve McGann then have these 2 in for a season then gone at the end of the season....
People that can develop this year and come up with us give us good continuity for when we are up id rather that.

But you could say the same for Foley and O' Brien at nearly 36 and 32 respectively. Would you not think they only have season or two in them and could be taking a young players place? Only could be good for the young players like McGann to be playing and training with two players from a quaility team like CSKA Moscow

No not really 32 Derek could still have another 2 or 3 years in him.....Dom Foley if he is coming will be coming as a player coach so can stay with us as a coach when he stops playing.

So there is a chance they will still be around the club next season no hope of that with the CSKA lads.

I just don't think we need the CSKA lads. If we where in the premier i'd say definitely we need them but at the moment I don't think we do.

Limerick Fc are delighted to announce the unveiling of their new Irish international striker will take place at 4.30pm today in Aisling Annacotty. (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Limerick-Football-Club/93574368885)I guess it is done then. A goal every three games ain't bad and his experience, as an addition to the staff, will be invaluable to a club with our ambitions. Won't hurt to have a man like Foley whispering in Pat's ear occasionally having been at more than his fair share of training sessions in the UK and Europe. Onward and upward! :)

Can 'unattached' players (or any players) be signed after transfer window closes? Think we really need some backup in defence, also is Derek oBrien injured?

sadloserkid
22/02/2012, 9:57 PM
I believe unattached players can be signed outside the window and that Derek O'Brien picked up a small knock against Cork but isn't injured as such. I'm not certain of either of these things. :)

Correct on both.

The transfer window is only if we are signing them from another club like Foley from Brugge, unattached can be signed at any time
and Derek only felt a bit of tightness against Cork he is fine.

Not sure if he was because then he would have been a free agent and would have been able to sign after last night's deadline for transfers. At the press conference for him yesterday, it was said that he flew over especially to sign as it had to be sorted before the deadline.

He was released to us which is basically like them granting him a free transfer.
They would not have had the time to go through the formalities of having his contract terminated have that sanctioned making him a free agent and then make his way over to sign a contract for us in time.

Thats what im lead to believe anyway.

Seriously doubt any sort of fee was involved. I don't know why Cork fans are obsessed with Limerick's money.

Delighted for Calla too. I ran into him one day at the physios and he gave me the full run down on his injury and showed me the scars. I was there for fallen arches and he had a structure like the Eifel Tower encasing his leg. Made a fool of me! I hope his recovery has gone to plan and, like Gary, that he gets his chance this season. He's a good lad.
