Hey lads, just want to get any thoughts on the two consoles and which ye would recommend. Both seem to attract strong reviews and I notice the x box is retailing approx 50 plus quid more than the ps3. The slim model can be got with a new game for 220.

From what I can gather, the ps3 has more to give, better graphics and capability. Although Xbox live appears to far superior to PS equivalent. Any thoughts on ye're experiences with the 2 consoles would be appreciated.

I much preferred the original X-Box to the PS2 (had both). Accordingly I bought an X360 this time round and only that. Have no complaints with it. On a basic level I prefer the controller. :)

Xbox is better for gaming. PS3 better for entertainment.

Would never give up my 360 for a ps3. If you decide to go for a 360, get a slim model.

I have had both...origianally XBOX360 but i got the the red light of death and tried to repair it myself...which ended in disaster.

Now have a ps3 and use it for everything from gaming to watching blurays to watching stuff off my harddrive to a bit of surfing.

I never really took to the xbox(does online gaming still cost money?) if so then I'm glad i have my ps3.

Although im sorry i cant play gears of war which is stunning and Halo.

But we have gran turismo....

They both have their plus points...if you are gonna be gaming online go with what your mates have so you can game against them.

In the clash of the PS2 and original X-Box I found that the PS2 had a better variety of games (Canis Canem Edit, GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Vice City stories only ever got a PS2 release afaik) but that if a game was available on both machines it generally looked and played a little better on the XBox. While I don't own a PS3 I have found that the same applies with the current gen. Red Dead Redemption in particular felt a whole lot prettier to me on the X360.

I've always been in favour of the 360, but in recent months, swaying toward the PS3, all round better I think. If someone happens to hack a 360 controller to work with ps3 I'm in heaven.

The entertainment side of the PS3 seems to be top notch alright. Blu ray player is a plus as well. Can you download films through the ps3 and also is the bbc iplayer available in ROI?? Have seen it advertised that you can watch the BBC, ITV and CH4 players through your ps3, but assume that is UK only.

there are a few of those xbox style controllers for PS3:

I've used that last Argos one a few times and it's ok.
