has Brennan really done that much to justify being in team of the year ? Surprised North isnt in more teams, obviously i am probably slightly biased, but he has had a great season

Plus Zayed is fat as **** and useless every time i have seen him and offers **** all ......... top scorer or not

Think Sullivan is being voted in for one goal

Some players have really tailed off after brilliant starts too (Dempsey, North). Others get in by defailt (Stevens - not that good, but a good bit better than his peers)

Others started off poorly (by their standards) and came on strong at the end (Richie Ryan)

Brendan Clarke

Pat Sullivan
Enda Stevens
Dan Murray
Gavin Peers

Stephen Rice
Conor McCormack
Joseph Ndo

Danny North
Eoin Doyle
James McClean

Few players who'd sub in there pretty easily: McCabe, Kavanagh, Zayed, Oman, Quigley, Kearns. I've only seen Bray once this season and I feel like I might have more of their players in there if I'd seen more of them.

Jason McGuiness should be in the team of the year. In fact all of rovers back 5, clarke, keane, mcguiness, peers, davoren.

Twigg/Zayed for their goals.
isn't twigg 4th top scorer? hasn't scored in Europe either

SHould point out that I think he's the best in the league but this year he hasn't been at the same level as the past 2

You meant to say

Hard to know who'll get POTY but I'm sure it'll be between Sullivan for his goal in Belgrade and Zayed for his goals, and Twigg because he plays for Rovers.

Fair enough

Very surprised McGuinness isn't in a lot more teams instead of Peers. He's the number one reason we've conceded so few goals.

bizarrely Marino Bohs I agree with your selection-people will talk.
i wouldnt include finn on the bench tho , unless its for biggest letdown.

i'd also say that young lad off bohs, forrester looks a real player for the future.

On the most simplistic of levels:

Last season (without McGuinness) Sligo conceded 36 goals, this season (with him) they've let in 17.

I'd say Clarke had a lot to do with that too, not to mention McGuinness being poor enough.

You may say that Dodge but Mcguinness was superb for us all season imo. I've seen enough of him all season and he has been better than Peers. Solid as a rock.
Clarke has been quality as well.

McCabe Rice Ryan Dennehy

A league title, Setanta Cup and European group stages and Paul Cook is still your manager of the season??

It has to be either O'Neill or Kenny

I don't think top scorer is necessarily automatic first choice...Doyle has scored 20, but has probably a 1 in 50,000,000 conversion rate. That's just in Tallaght alone. That's not good..

He is ridiculously over rated, good season but not our best player or best defender, Keane is a far bigger loss to our team and Peers is everything to our defence.
Like I said a million times before if Peers was signed at the same time as Mc Guinness people would be raveing about him but now his quality is just over looked.

You sound like one of the crazy aul lads in the Treacy.

Peers has been good this year, but nowhere near as good as last two seasons. It's no coincidence we've conceded so few goals compared to previous seasons.

The humanity - must we quibble over these two wonderful players! I think both are complimentary, McGuinness aerial ability and increasing confidence going forward - with Peers simply brilliant in reading the game (admittedly he does the odd back pass that would have your heart in your mouth).

For me, our back four, Davoren and Keane, are best in the league.

Irony that having scored the most goals - most fans will say we need a clinical striker.

Maybe I do but I think you will find our defensive record improved dramatically when we signed a decent centre back to partner Peers half way through last season with Jim.
Personally I would have rathered keep Jim but Mc Guinness has done a good job but this absolute cack about him being the best player this season is just laughable.
Personally my stand out man in defence is Keane and people like Richie are far more integral to our overall play than Mc Guinness not to mention Doyler who has broken a club record.

Richie wasn't half the player this year compared to last, and even compared to the second half of '08 when he signed. Suppose it's down to him being a marked man every game this year, but you could also say other teams got clever to him a few months into last season, knowing how well he was playing. And he still managed to flourish.

I do think that Keane is our most important player though, we're not the same without him and he's our most 'attacking' player. But I still think Jay has been our best performer when you take in all competitions.
