Hears what i;ve picked up...

Autoroutes are toll roads but anything from €3 to €5 per 100km depending on old or new roads. Autoroutes free around Paris. Pay when exiting the Autoroute. Speed Limits 110(wet)-130(dry)kph.

Fuel cheapest in spuermarkets, fill up @ pump & then apparently drive to kiosk to pay.

Use credit card at toll booths (peyage ?) on motorways. This is much faster than fooling around with change. Once you get into Brittany there are no toll roads.
As Pete said supermarkets are cheapest for fuel. After shop closes you can get the fuel using your credit card. Put in card and nominate how much you want and pump if dispense that amount. If the card isn't totally burned of course :D

I think they also check your average speed based on where you enter the toll road & where you exit, so be careful.
