Can anyone tell me if anyone has ever scored more goals in the First Division than Philly?
Wikipedia leads me to believe hes on 106 and I'd find it hard to believe that anyone else who scores consistently wouldn't get his shot and take it at a higher level.
Graham Cummins is currently on 67 though hopefully this will be his last season down here.

Con McLaughlin?
Andy Myler?
Kevin McHugh?
They've scored loads of goals and spent time in the First Division - not sure how much time though.
Probably has the penalty record anyway...
About time he missed one or two...;)

I always thought of him as a Curry-Cheese-Chips man.

its a play on his name... - its not funny if I have to explain it!

He's had enough shots alright. I thought the Pun was OK too
How many has McHugh got for Harps in the first?
(BTW I wouldn't be so sure about that wiki article as he didn't win the league cupw ith Pats in either of those years, and was with Monaghan in 2010, when apparently he won the LSC with Shels)

Nothing wrong with your pun.
But literally when I see the man I think of Curry-Cheese-Chips.

well Wikipedia isn't the best source for facts, but there isn't a whole lot of information kept of the LOI first division.
I agree hes had a shot but he didn't take it, which you have to think has a lot to do with choices he has made and little to do with his talent.
Those choices being Supermacs, Burgerking, Leo Burd...
Yeah, thought when he started out at Pats he was going to be a good goal poaching striker. Never fulfilled his promise (at that level anyway).

Hughes has scored 67 goals in 164 First Division appearances since 2006. I don't have reliable stats pre-2006. If what's on Wikipedia is anyway reliable you can take it that he has hit the 100 mark in the First Division. Not bad for a fat bloke.
In that same period Cummins outperforms Hughes with 72 goals in 135 First Division appearances, 53% hit-rate.

based on limited stats I've found it looks like McHugh and McLoughlin are likely to be his closest competitors.
Does anyone have their season by season goals records? Any Finn Harps statisticians out there?

I think Kevin McHugh has something like 120 goals in first division with Harps. Has I think 150-something goals now for Finn Harps in total. Couldn't tell you how much in the First Division that is though, think he played 2 seasons of those in the Premier.
Con McLoughlin has scored 110 afaik
El-Pietro
10/10/2011, 11:25 PM
so its
1. McHugh 120ish
2. McLoughlin 110
3. Hughes 106 and counting

McHugh still counting too, I'd imagine he has another season or so in the first division with Harps, Cummins should most definitely move on this year whether to the Premier with Cork or onto bigger things.

ah yes, forgot about McHugh, which is odd given that I was wondering where he was last Friday night
youd wonder whether Hughes moves up a level or finds himself back here with someone else.
Cummins looks like hes going up but nothing decided yet. Can't see him moving from us at this age and without showing he can do it in the Premier first but he has an incredible rate for a centre half!

Martin Reilly got 20 in one season for Dundalk although I think he was about for 3 seasons with us, don't know how he faired at other FD clubs pre or post. He would have well over the half century I'd have thought. I thought it was worth mentioning as he was our Philly Hughes before we got Philly Hughes!

But Reilly spent most of his career at the premier level (with Pats).

It's pretty good actually. Just make sure you try it near a doctor first (but not in his line of sight, or he might wrestle it from your hands, and throw it away, whereupon it would explode).

Yeah, they're the bizness, kind of like a posh cheeseburger. A couple of my local "chippers" have added a kind of cheesesteak thing to the menu in the last year or two, is it the same nationwide?
On the subject of the First Division, my people tell me McLaughlin has 74 FD goals (a lot of his goals were before the 2-division structure came in) and McHugh got 75 FD (plus 5 in play-offs) in his first spell at Harps. So add whatever he's scored since he returned (hard to find a definite figure on that) and you'd have his total.

Just checked my own stats and here's the two guys records with Harps:
Con McLaughlin scored a total of 110 league goals with Harps in 314 games. 36 of these goals (156 games) came in the old one-tier LOI set-up, with 74 goals (158 games) coming after the formation of the First Division.
Kevin McHugh has scored a total of 124 league goals with Harps in 253 games (to date). 24 of the goals (87 games) have come in the Premier Division. He has scored exactly 100 First Division goals (166 games) to date, while he also has another five goals (8 games) in promotion/relegation games which I'm not sure if they count as league goals - they were all scored in games where Harps were the First Divison club.
These players, along with Brendan Bradley, are the only three players to have scored more than 100 LOI goals for the club.

Hughes got something like 27-28 goals for Kilkenny in his season there not 15 so I wouldnt be using wiki for my stats.

So what about Andy Myler . . . did he spend many seasons in the Premier?
He has 133 LOI goals in total, so if his Premier Division total could be subtracted from that you'd have the figure for the First Division.

For the record hughes scored 3 goals for Pats in the Premier Division

And five for us in the First.
So what about Andy Myler . . . did he spend many seasons in the Premier?
Myler had a fair few seasons in the Premier in fairness. Rovers, Drogheda, Longford and Bray for starters (though he didn't score many for Bray). I think he was half and half First and Premier with us, but only scored 13 goals in total. Athlone and Monaghan were where most of his goals came from, and they were all in the First. I'd say he scored close on half his goals in the Premier, but that's a very rough guesstimate.

we need some sort of organisation to track all results and stats. its criminal that this simple question can't be answered with one quick online search

On that note, if it ever helps anyone, I've line-ups as well as cumulative goalscoring and appearance stats for a bit over half of all UCD's senior games (i.e. since joining the league in 1979).
Likewise if anyone needs any pats stuff, PM me. I'm more certain on th recent stuff (obviously)
Antonio Izzi scored a load of goals for Cobh in division 1 many moons ago

it would be good if we could put together the lineups, goals, cards etc for every LOI game. it would be a lot of work but the lack of records is criminal

He didn't score many for us iirc, althought Marty the Longford Statto will probably be on to contradict that soon. :)

Was that nine in total or just league goals? Doesnt really matter either way just curious. I remember he scored a typical Andy Myler "proper striker's" goal against Linfield in the Setanta Cup at home and there was great expectations but he just didn't have the pace to play the role that was asked of him. I think Dave Mooney in '07 was the only time a forward of ours really clicked within Alan Mathews' system and that was down to Mooney deciding he was actually going to prove himself that year. There'd been only flashes previously for various reasons.

sorry for misleading you longfordian it was nine goals in total that season three in the fai cup, one in the setanta one in the UEFA Cup and the rest in the league which was a paltry four!

In all comps in 2006, Philly scored 22 goals for DundalkFC.(maybe a club record ??)
The following (2007) season, his form took a dive and he only scored 7 times.
Still looking into this,he may have scored more times for us.

Wonder if Shels would hang on to him if they go up? As has been discussed he's a proven First Division scorer but may struggle when going up a level. Depends on who they could bring in I guess. His lack of pace may count against him. I'd certainly take him at LTFC next year if he's on the look out for something!

We'd be mad to be rid of him after this season. There's only one way to find out if he has it and AM is the man to do it!

I find the "I'm not available on Friday nights" line doesn't go down too well. That and "I can't go to your friend's party/wedding, I'll be in Longford".
Myler scored three First Division goals for us in 2002.
